Prairie Center — Avera McKennan is a highly caring and supportive healthcare facility, especially for those facing cancer. Patients appreciate the dedicated staff, including doctors, nurse navigators, and infusion teams, who go above and beyond to provide personalized care. Many describe their experience as a step above other facilities, highlighting how staff members genuinely care about their well-being—mentally, physically, and spiritually. The nurses and doctors listen carefully, advocate on their behalf, and make efforts to accommodate individual schedules and needs. Patients often feel like they are treated like family, with staff offering reassurance and support during difficult times. The center is well-equipped and organized, although a minor note mentions the lack of Coke, with only Pepsi available. Overall, patients express gratitude for the compassionate care they received, which helped them through their cancer journeys, and many consider the Prairie Center a place where they felt truly supported and cared for by a wonderful team.
I started this journey 7 years ago. Yesterday I recieved a clean report that I am 3YEARS cancer free! I Love my Doctors. Dr. Solomon, Laura Hofer PA. They have always listened and advised , I think of them as friends and family. It was a rough road the first 4 years but they are the ones that got me through it and I thank God everyday he brought me to them! If you are starting this journey I hope you get someone like them. If you are lucky enough to go to the Prairie Center you will see how busy they are and how everyone there is working for YOU!
This is a step above all other Avera facilities. Every staff member seemed to genuinely care and my oncologist went out of her way to argue with insurance on my behalf. The nurse navigator could be described as a caring machine ... she scheduled last minute tests, juggled appointments, worked with my own schedule, and spent a considerable amount of time answering my questions, including questions I didn't know to ask.
It's impossible to put into words how much they supported my mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. The only time I ever felt alone or scared was the prior to diagnosis, up to the point the nurse navigator called and introduced herself.
I love this place ! During my Cancer journey I didn't know what to expect and the staff, doctors, infusion staff, radiology staff took such great care of me . I got the opportunity to get to know the staff and I'm forever grateful for them . Thank you !!
