My grandmother who is 97 had a leak in her roof. She still lives on her own in her own home. I made sure I got several quotes to fix it, but Mayhem had been the most highly-rated so was looking forward to them. They not only beat all of the other quotes, but the job was done in such a timely manner and everyone was so professional and courteous and really took care of my grandmother. I live in Tampa, so sometimes it's hard working these things out long distance and making sure my grandmother doesn't get cheated. I'm so thankful for companies like Mayhem!
I think Mayhem Roofing does an exceptional job, uses top notch materials, and employs professional personnel. However, if you’re putting on a roof through insurance, beware. You’ll need to stay on top of it or their finance section will work the system in their favor. Read on if you want the details of my experience. To sell my house I had it inspected and there was hail damage on my roof. My realtor suggested Mayhem Roofing. They wrote up a comprehensive report detailing all the damage to include damage to the gutters, downspouts, and windows. Then they offered to contact my insurance and take care of everything. I decided to contact my insurance myself, they sent out an independent adjuster, and confirmed Mayhem Roofing's conclusion of hail damage. In fact, the adjustor used much of Mayhem's report in his own report. I asked Mayhem for an estimate which they refused to give me without seeing the adjuster's report which detailed how much my insurance would pay. I resisted but the rep from Mayhem kept insisting he needed to see the report before they could give me an estimate because, "if their estimate is higher than what insurance is paying, you'll have to pay the balance out of your pocket." I finally relented and sent them the report and asked again for an estimate. The rep immediately referred me to the adjuster's report and told me that was my estimate. Because my house was on the market and had an offer, I decided to go with Mayhem because they had invested a lot of time and effort and they said they would have the roof done by the end of the week. With the weather pattern, I was told they would do the roof in sections so they could cover any bare portions if a thunderstorm popped up unexpectedly. However, they tore the entire roof off, a thunderstorm did come through, and I had water damage in four rooms of the house. To their credit, they repaired all the damage. Also to their credit, I believe they put on a quality roof which looks good and should last many years. On the other hand they charged me an extra $300 to clean out gutters which they should have cleaned out anyway, but because there were leaves and other debris in them, they insisted I pay extra. Also, they insisted I send a certified check but they would only cover half the cost of getting one. Mayhem sent the invoice to my insurance company to get the rest of the insurance funds released to pay the balance of the bill. When my insurance company sent me Mayhem's invoice, it showed they had repaired everything to include gutters, downspouts, and windows. However, they did not fix any of those things. After pointing this out to their rep, he had someone from the finance section call me. That person had just left the office but said he could look at it when he got home and would send me an invoice as soon as he could. Hours later I did receive a completely different invoice than my insurance company had. My impression of Mayhem Roofing is they live by insurance claims and have figured out how to work the system in their favor. I believe they have a good product and do above average work but if you let them take over the insurance, they will receive a lot more of the money, which you've been paying into for years, than they probably should. I get the feeling I could have gotten a much lower estimate and had my insurance pay a lot less if they would have given me an estimate before they saw the adjuster's report. Their entire estimate and invoice system seemed a bit hinkey and I had to stay on top of it and fight them throughout that process. After talking to a lot of people who know the roofing business, this is not something specific to Mayhem Roofing. It is, apparently, the industry standard to work the insurance system and have insurance overpay for a roof which would normally cost about half what they charge. Finally, I have one last tiny bit of heartburn with Mayhem Roofing. I put this review on the Better Business Bureau website but was informed they had to remove it. Wh
