It was a great experience today being booked with Emily Lebovitz - I just love my new warmer brown color to cover the grey. I decided that I needed a cut, so Emily worked closely with Dani, the instructor. I am leaving here feeling fresh and updated! Thank you Emily and Dani!

I was a student here - completed the 10 week full time Manicuring Program. I met so many amazing people, the teachers were great - super supportive and comforting. Everyone is so helpful and wants us to succeed as long as we are determined to put the work in!

This place butchered my hair. Period.

I came in with very long hair (down to my lower back/behind) and explicitly asked for 4–5 inches off, face framing, curtain bangs, and no blunt cuts because my straight hair can sit weird and wavy if it isn’t thinned properly. The instructor confirmed this was a trim, not a transformation.

The student, Jayden (black and green hair), ignored everything I said and chopped off 8–10 inches without communicating. My hair ended up at my shoulder blades. When I spoke up, I was gaslit and told it was “maybe 5.5 inches” with excuses about breakage—after the damage was already done. No apology. No refund. Not even a goodbye. I left as fast as I could and went outside in the cold weather to cry. I spent the next several hours crying.

Jayden should seriously go back to rudimentaries—including learning how to measure and count, because that is clearly a skill she is lacking, not just the ability to cut hair properly. She has absolutely no business touching anyone's hair. In fact, she left shampoo foam residue on my head and hairline when I was being shampooed. That should of been my sign to just leave.

Because of this, I spent my Friday afternoon scrambling, calling around, and driving place to place trying to find any salon that could take me in last minute to fix the damage. I finally got into a real, qualified salon and had to pay another $80 out of pocket just to make it look remotely presentable. That stylist was horrified by how uneven, blunt, bulky, and poorly executed the cut was and confirmed this was nowhere near a simple trim.

I paid cash, and I deeply regret it. If I had paid with a credit card, I would have filed a chargeback immediately and gladly made this school eat the chargeback fee for this level of incompetence.

The environment itself was a joke—students on their phones, blasting videos, video-chatting, with little to no supervision.

I’ve had better experiences here in the past, which makes this collapse in quality even worse. Do not come here. And if you own a salon: never, under any circumstances, hire Jayden unless you want furious clients and irreversible damage.

I have tried on numerous occasions to call The Beauty Academy, but was told to call back. After doing so was still sent to voicemail. When I finally got a call back I was asked what Beauty Academy I was wanting to go to? I didn’t understand the question as I was calling the one that I go to which is The South Hills? I call ahead of time because they are always out of dark brown hair dye. This time was no different. I was told they were out of the dark brown dye once again.

This is no way to run a business/school in my opinion. Very unorganized and unprofessional.

I hope they get their act together. Because what they are portraying to the students is not professionalism nor respect for their clients.

    Thank you,
    Janet

I graduated from here several years ago. When I was in the process of transferring my license to a different state and the board requested official transcripts, South Hills Beauty Academy was of no help. In fact, the people on the phone treated me like I was a nuisance and were clearly annoyed with me. They failed to call me back as promised, or at the very least give me any sort of guidance.

Unfortunately, this type of carelessness and negligence was familiar to me when I attended here. Thankfully, everything worked out for me, but if you're considering South Hills Beauty Academy as a beauty school I would look elsewhere, they do not seem to care about their former alumni.
