We found Friends and Family after deciding not to continue working with a design/build firm whose design proposal ultimately didn't live up to what they'd led us to expect. Working with Billy, the owner, was a complete turnaround. We were looking for a full home renovation, and during the initial site visit, Billy took the time to understand exactly what we were looking for and walked us through major choices, such as whether to keep the same footprint or expand the home. Throughout the process, he also presented the many smaller decisions, such as flooring, tiles, and cabinetry, in a way that made each decision more digestible.
Once walls, plumbing, and the roof were opened up, there were some unforeseen discoveries that pushed our cost above the initial estimate. Billy had warned us this might happen initially, and we appreciated his transparency about each issue as it came up.
One of the things that stood out the most was the honest and frequent communication throughout the entire process. Billy works closely with a number of trusted tradesmen across different specialties, which we believe helped keep the project moving efficiently. Throughout construction, we thought Billy was very fair about not charging us more when he didn't have to.
Overall, Friends and Family Builders delivered quality work with integrity and professionalism. We're incredibly happy with the results!

F&F added a half bath into our rowhome and we had a great experience!
This was my first time with a project of this scope and they were fast, clean, and thorough. While I was trying to get estimates on the job, I had several contractors push back on pulling permits and F&F never pressured me. They let me know all the possible considerations but never once made me feel like it was an annoyance that I wanted them.
Even though I felt like I knew exactly what I wanted, I don't do this for a living and there were a lot of small details that I didn't plan out - like the exact height to hang shelves, the exact place to put the toilet paper holder - everyone was so considerate at giving me their recommendations and showing me what it would look like before moving forward.
There were only a handful of very small things that we wanted changed during the project (and one of them was my mistake because I purchased some pipes that didn't work with a fixture) and I always felt very listened to and never made to feel bad about asking for something.
We're so happy with our half bath and get so many compliments on it!

I hired this company at a very high cost because I was told “we are expensive because we are the best”. Insulation was not put in the ceiling before dry walling. Ceiling is not painted correctly — entire sections were missed (it looked better before this company started work), and because of paint spillage on to my one window sill, only one was painted. My kitchen vent was installed without all the screws. I have tried to fix the insulation issue myself (from the bathroom) and cannot. I was encouraged to open the ceiling up again and start over. Very disappointed with the cost of the work versus the quality delivered. Photos show where ceiling was not painted, poorly painted sill and missing screw for vent.

Family and Friends remodeled my kitchen, re-routed the bottom part of my stairs, and built a mudroom area for me and I could not be more pleased with the final result. I talked to a number of different contractors beforehand and ended up with F&F because they were responsive, detail-oriented, and had a great price. Billy connected me with his vendors who were all extremely reasonable and helpful in selections. His team was great at communicating updates to schedule to me, both before my project started and during the course of my project. I was living in the house during the renovation, and his team was respectful of my space, and did everything they could to keep it clean so we were minimally affected upstairs while they worked downstairs. They brought me questions when my drawings weren't clear and were very communicative about any items that we changed that would incur additional costs. Change orders were really minimal - for a project my size, I had anticipated much higher. Our project manager, Chris, came up with some great touches for how to finish a few items more beautifully, which really pulled it all together. Everyone that came to my house was friendly, hard working, and impressed me with their quality and expertise. I would 100% use Family & Friends again.
