Horrible experience. The tech I had was fantastic. Dr. Nick, the woman I assume was the office manager and everything else about the place was completely awful. I should have figured it wasn’t going to be a good experience when even getting through on the phone was a struggle!
To preface, I don’t blame all of this on them - I was referred to Meadville Ophthalmology by Northshore Neurology and why I was referred to a place that doesn’t take my insurance and why there was no communication between to two offices is beyond me so it’s not all M.O. it was a bad experience.
I called and made an appointment and I thought it was odd on the phone they didn’t ask me anything about insurance but I told them I was referred by Dr. Bellini at N.N. gave them any information I had about Dr. B. telling them I wasn’t really sure what she wanted checked, I was just told to make an appointment. Now to me, if I worked there that would mean we need to call this office and discuss this patient, but apparently I assumed too much.
I arrived at my appointment and the girl working the desk I hope it was her first day because she didn’t even know where there was a bathroom I could use. They seemed unorganized, I don’t know if it was her or if that’s just how they are. I explained I mailed the forms back already and they had to find them. They realized they have no insurance information for me. They took my insurance card for me and told me to have a seat in the waiting area. After about 10-15 mins, the tech calls me back to a room where she reads the script for my glasses and does one test on my eyes, I’m not sure what it was and then takes me to the exam room where she begins asking me the “20 questions” and doing all the small tests on my eyes.
In the middle of this, the woman whom I can only assume is the office manager swings the door open and says to me “do you have other insurance” “no” “well we don’t take this, we never have” “um, well, no one told me that” “that means you’re going to be self pay today” “um, ok, how much is that going to be?” “Starts at $150 and goes up from there depending” “uh, I don’t have that much, I just lost my job, will I be able to make payments? It’s not my fault no one told me you didn’t take my insurance. I will gladly pay it, I just don’t have that much on me.” “I’ll have to speak with the doctor” she leaves the room to speak with the doctor, comes back, asks me why I’m even here - so clearly they never even spoke to N.N or Dr.B. I tried to explain to her why I think I’m there but I don’t understand neurological ophthalmology things so I don’t fully know and she leaves again and comes back and tells me because I was referred from a specialist it will definitely be way over $250 and I have to pay it all today or I can leave now. The tech was still in the room and could tell I was clearly upset so I think she may have said something but I asked if I could make some phone calls and I’ll let them know what I decide.
I called my mom very upset, we decided that since they already started the exam, no matter what they were going to charge me so I might as well finish the exam. My mom sent me her card information so I would be able to pay at the end of my visit.
I went through with the rest of the examination and as I was being examined they were trying to get in touch with N.N and Dr. B., I felt as though even though I wasn’t sure what they were checking for, it wasn’t thorough. This was okay for the sake of me not having to pay for it which I appreciate, but what good does that do me in the long run? All Dr. Nick did was ask me why I go to N.N and medications I’m on and shine a light in my eyes. They said it would be well over $250 and it was only $175 which I appreciate, but I don’t believe I was examined properly.
As I was leaving, the office manager was finally on the phone with Dr. B to find out what all she was wanting.
I will never go back to M.O. insurance or not!
Oh, and they dilated my eyes and then just left me leave knowing I li

The service was excellent. My only issue is that there were numerous seniors with walkers but the doors were not handicap accessible. They should have automatic doors

They overbook and if you are a new patient you sit there for a while it seems. No reminder calls or anything very disappointed as this is close to my house but I now travel half hour to go to friendly people

I called Meadville Ophthalmology early in the AM and explained what was going on with my spouse’s eyes. They listened to what I had to say. They immediately got Alan in and were able to identify the problem. Staff was understanding and explained everything to us. We are looking forward to the next appointment and the procedure. Thank you.

I have just recently had my two cataracts removed, and I’m so pleased with every part of the service. My eyes are very sensitive, but they were extremely patient and friendly—always taking time to answer my questions.
