This is one of the best pools for learning to swim for kids. The pool is on the warm side and is mainly quite shallow. This means that the kids don’t freeze and can learn basic skills in comfort. Once they get up in levels it makes sense to move to a more traditional pool but this place is fantastic as a starting point. Staff have always been excellent. They also run fun summer camps and do birthday parties as well. Can’t go wrong here for small kids.
We love this little gem. We’ve been taking our little on here for swimming lessons since 2022 and it’s such a family centred recreation centre. Above all, the swimming instructors have all been phenomenal. This past swimming session we participated in was strangely difficult for our daughter. She would cry as soon as we got on deck, despite loving the water. One of the lifeguards (Karen) on duty on Saturday mornings finally helped us out by getting in the pool with our daughter and swimming with her and gradually getting her more comfortable with her instructor. I have only used Dovercourt for swimming. Been going for about a year now. The change rooms and showers are pretty clean and the pool is a good temperature. However, the lane swims are only a few times a week and only extremely early in the morning-they are also always full. So, I do adult swims instead, which are okay. It is very hard to actually swim because people are not mindful of others and the staff doesn’t lane off the pool. I think splitting it in half for those who just want to stand/ float/ mingle in the water to stay on one side could fix this.
