We hired Kozak Renovation (owner – Yuriy) to renovate the main floor of our house, including the kitchen, bathroom, and ceiling. At first, everything seemed fine, but recently we discovered something shocking: both the bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans were not vented outside at all — they were simply dumped into the attic. As a result, mold started to grow inside our roof structure, and our children, who suffer from allergies, began having serious allergic reactions. When we called a professional mold inspection service, they confirmed that the ventilation was installed incorrectly and did not meet Ontario Building Code requirements. Now we are facing significant expenses for mold remediation and for redoing the ventilation system properly. When confronted, Yuriy (the owner of Kozak Renovation) admitted that his company installed the electrical fans but claimed that, since the contract didn’t specifically mention “HVAC,” he was not responsible for venting them outside — which is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Any experienced contractor should know that proper ventilation to the exterior is required by the Ontario Building Code, and homeowners are not responsible for knowing every technical detail of code compliance. This is a case of negligence and poor workmanship, and we are extremely disappointed and frustrated with this company. Avoid Kozak Renovation if you care about safety, quality, and accountability.
