“I am experiencing severe gum disease as a result of intensive chemotherapy, combined with Lupus, which in my case, has caused my gums to recede.My oral health has been in a kamikaze nosedive for three years!Our children are happy patients of Dr Shiga and so my husband reached out for help: a recommendation, a lifeline, anything - we were in dire straits!After reaching the point where it hurt to even have air touch my teeth, I knew it was time to double down and get my mouth sorted out. I hadn’t eaten solid foods in almost a week - just room temperature Ensure and lukewarm broth.Dr Shiga’s office immediately worked me in to the same day schedule. I needed “gas” to simply open my mouth for the exam.The list of procedures that I need is staggering, but most importantly, it was presented in a way that was not overwhelming or frightening.Dr Shinga’s entire staff was a lighthouse in the dark. I was never “doubted” regarding the “many reasons why” I was incorrect about chemo causing long lasting gum issues. Never mind that my oncologist spoke to me before treatment and warned that this could be a life long issue. My oncologist also reminded me about the long term side effects when my treatment was complete and I was in white hot pain, unable to eat solid food for long stretches of time.Together, Dr Shiga, her staff, my husband and I came up with short term and long term plans to best support my oral health moving forward.If you’re like me and have had a previous dentist’s hands feel like a bulldozer in your mouth, if you’ve been doubted, shamed, and embarrassed by someone who took an OATH to care for patients……..please know the OUTSTANDING, extremely COMPASSIONATE, and GENTLE Dr Shiga will go above and beyond to care for you.“
