“We hired White Glove Exteriors and John Ernst for a large custom Brava composite slate roof project. Overall, I am pleased with the finished roof, believe we received very good value for our investment, and would contract with John again.
One of the biggest reasons we selected WGE was John's Transparent Price Model (TPM). His price was substantially lower than competing proposals we received for a Brava slate roof, and it was a key reason we moved forward with this premium, state-of-the-art roofing system. WGE's many five-star reviews also influenced our decision.
There were a number of positives throughout the project. The installation crew worked extremely hard, sometimes putting in 12-hour days. Our foreman, Jose, was knowledgeable,
approachable, and easy to communicate with. He paid close attention to details and made several helpful recommendations during the project, including roof harness attachment points. When a landscape light was damaged during installation, WGE replaced it. WGE also took responsibility for ensuring the stack pipe was properly installed and paid to have the work completed correctly.
Some issues also kept my experience from being SIX stars. The snow guards needed proper placement and additional attention after the Brava slate tiles were already installed. The front fascia metal was damaged during installation and, in my opinion, should have been replaced rather than installed. The piece had been hammered over, leaving visible dents and exposed metal that affected its finished appearance. I would have preferred a new piece, but at the time I felt uncomfortable asking the crew to replace it. We also had a substantial amount of roofing material left over at completion, which made me question whether the original material quantities could have been estimated more closely and potentially reduced our cost.
The project also took longer to completely close out than I anticipated. Some patio furniture received minor scratches during installation; had we known it wouldn't be covered, we would have protected it ourselves. The gutter touch-up paint also didn't match the existing gutter color.
That said, I believe the true measure of a contractor is not whether every aspect of a large and complicated project goes perfectly, but whether you can trust the people you are doing business with. I found John Ernst to be a trustworthy business owner who stood behind the project. I also believe this transparent pricing model is one of WGE's greatest strengths and provides customers with an excellent alternative to the pricing structure used by many roofing contractors.
The Brava slate composite roof was a substantial and specialized project, and we are very pleased with the value we received. Despite the issues noted above, I would hire John and White Glove Exteriors again without hesitation.”
