About VA - Cincinnati Medical Center

The VA - Cincinnati Medical Center is a multifaceted system that receives mixed but generally positive reviews from veterans. Many patients describe the staff as good, warm, professional, polite, and personable, leading to excellent care and treatment. Several reviewers report never having long waits for appointments, with quick scheduling for tests and follow-ups. For many, the hospital has been very good and life-saving, earning a solid recommendation. However, some criticisms exist within the system. A few staff members are viewed negatively, and there can be issues with internal communication, leaving patients feeling kept in the dark. Some policies are frustrating to veterans, such as being perceived as overly cautious with certain prescriptions while freely dispensing others. The process for establishing service-connected medical issues is also a point of complaint. Despite these foibles, many patients choose it as their primary care facility over other options and express lasting gratitude.

I had a very positive experience during my visit to the Cincinnati VA Medical Center. From the moment I arrived, the entire staff was welcoming, professional, and extremely helpful. Everyone I encountered treated me with respect and made the visit smooth and comfortable.

I would especially like to recognize Barbara Yankson Akoto. She was outstanding. Dr. Yankson Akoto took the time to listen to my concerns, explained everything clearly, and made sure I understood my care. Her professionalism, compassion, and attention to detail truly stood out.

It is clear Dr. AKOTO and her entire team care about the veterans they serve, and I am very grateful for the excellent...read full review

Hard to give a review on this system, because it is a whole multifaceted system. Mostly theyre good people working there, but some people work there that i dont think would get abjob elsewhere.
They dont care about what surgeries/procedures cost, but then cheap out on the prescription eyeglasses that they offet. As a va medical system, they get a solid 4 starts. In compared to a comparable civilian sysem, they’re a three star if generous:

Few foibles: they will pass out ssri’s like candy but anything “that has street value) they are loathe to prescribe to veterans. ESPECIALLY if youre PTSD and ESPECIALLY if you have a history of substance use including alcohol.if you have a history of alcohol, its probably good to be honest, but dont overplay it to your provider.

I have never met a group of warmer, more professional, more personable people than I have found at this hospital. I have had excellent care in the two years I have been able to use the facility, and I would recommend them to anyone.
