Very Disappointed — Sloppy Work and Poor Professionalism
I hired DP Customs for what should have been a straightforward painting project: a final coat on the walls, trim, and ceilings in my primary suite (already painted 1–2 coats) and two full coats in a small hallway that was only primed. The total project area was under 450 SF. I also had butcher block countertops that needed to be stripped, sanded, and re-stained.
To their credit, the countertops turned out nicely, this only after a good amount of teeth pulling to get them to follow through and make sure the countertops were finished at the edges. However, the rest of the work was extremely disappointing.
What should have been a 3–4 day job took two painters eight days to complete. Early on, I noticed sloppy lines, overspray, and a general lack of care. When I raised concerns, the owner assured me the work would be “perfect” before completion — but what I was left with was far from it. In the end, I paid $2,500 for work that I now need to touch up or redo myself.
Some of the biggest issues:
- Poor cutting-in and unclean lines throughout — unacceptable for professional painters.
- Overspray on brand-new wood floors and ceilings, only cleaned up after my General Contractor and I pointed it out.
- Paint splatter EVERYWHERE: door handles, flooring, cabinets — now requiring hours of cleanup.
- The hallway linen closet was sprayed unevenly and left messy; I had to go back and add another coat myself.
- The Scope of Work discussed at the walkthrough didn’t match the written quote. Midway through, I was told several items were “extra,” adding $1,000 — followed by the owner admitting he “didn’t check his notes” before providing the quote.
- Instructions were ignored regarding what to paint and which products/sheen to use, even though all cans were clearly labeled.
- The wrong paint and sheen were used on trim in the hallway until I caught it mid-project.
- Doors that were not supposed to be painted were brushed over, leaving visible strokes on previously sprayed surfaces — they now look worse than before.
- When I raised valid concerns, I was told I was “nitpicking,” which was both unprofessional and dismissive.
Throughout the process, the owner was condescending and defensive, often talking down rather than taking accountability.
In hindsight, I should have ended the contract after the second day. I was reassured that everything would be fixed — it wasn’t. I would not recommend DP Customs based on this experience.

PROS: On time, friendly, applied two coats of paint to living room and kitchen walls very quickly; did a few touch-ups where I pointed out the need for them.
CONS: I had to call 4x to get work scheduled; only given a 14-hour notice to prep rooms for painting; we had a new-to-the-company painter who left drips on walls where paint was applied too thickly; paint was spilled, dripped, or smeared ceilings, baseboards, floor, window sills, window blinds, front screen door, kitchen cabinet doors, and a small section of carpet.
MORE PROS: After leaving the above review (with photos), the company owner contacted me to make things right. Since then, a more experienced painter spent a full day here repairing the first paint job and painting the trim and ceiling in one room, as well. The second painter did excellent work. I sincerely appreciate the owner's responsiveness and business integrity to make this right.
OVERALL: If you're willing and able to do all the prep work and post-work (removing switch plates, repairing nail holes, moving furniture, etc.), Dp Customs N-Terior & X-Terior is a good choice. I do recommend asking beforehand if the painter who will be working in your home is experienced and what the quality control checks are in place. (I highly recommend Leonard -- he was excellent!)

We hired this company to paint the trim, door frames, and front door of my house. The owner makes promises he does not intend to keep. He does not train or supervise his crew. A two day job was left incomplete on the 3rd full day. They brought minor children to the job site the first two days. There is oil based primer on a 60 year old oak threshold. There is primer on my slate floor. They destroyed 5 out of 10 solar lights. While painting the eaves they dripped paint on the roof shingles and the deck. They dripped primer on a runner. None of them knew how to cut in so there is paint on the brick, windows. It's a whole mess. They left a dozen drink containers strewn about the yard. They had to be asked to clean up the paint scrapings. They put a ladder through my screen and it was about the only thing they fixed. I hired this company to give my husband a break after two hard summers of selling my dads house and moving him here from out of state. We work 100 hours a week, have a 7th grader, and take care of my very sick dad. This cost us money we couldn't afford to lose on a job my husband has to complete in some areas and clean up in others. Owner promised Wednesday he would PERSONALLY be here today to supervise the necessary corrections and blew us off. Sent someone else entirely. We begged him to make it right and he treated us like punks.

I've been using DPcustoms for 3 years now, to clean all of my rental gutters. They offer a competitive price and schedule well in advance (time of service can vary depending on time of year). I just recently had them redo a rotted fascia / soffit and I was very happy with their service. It's getting harder and harder to find good businesses in the city, I'll be using them from now on.Service: Clean gutters
