“I grew disappointed in my previous salon so I looked up other places in the area and found Mellan. I came in this afternoon after calling and getting an appointment. I have very short hair, so there's not a lot to cut. But since it's short, it has to be cut nicely to compliment my face shape otherwise it can be really unflattering. I worked with Monica and she was really great. She looked at a couple of pictures that I had and patiently listened to me explain how my hair used to look, and what I wanted it to look like in the future. I am very happy with how my hair turned out. It looks like the styles that I showed her and compliments my face shape. She took the time to carefully check it from all angles (which my old salon did not do). Working with a new stylist can sometimes feel intimidating, but it was a really friendly and pleasant experience. I will definitely come back. Currently cash only.“
“Sergio is the GOAT (Greatest of all time). If you have long hair and need a consistent quality haircut, there is no other choice for a barber in NYC. I tried 6 other barbers before I found Sergio and they were nice, but my haircuts were always a hair off (no pun intended).Sergio gives me the perfect haircut every time. Whenever I walk out from an appointment I get looks on the street because my hair is ??.Also, if you love dogs, Lola is a gem. And if you don’t love dogs, meet Lola because she will change your mind.“

“One of the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten. I showed him a couple photos and he was able to come up with a hairstyle that combined all of them and looked amazing. I highly recommend coming for a cut but I do not personally recommend getting the k18 hair mask. My scalp is sadly still sore from my hair getting pulled out during the k18 repair mask process. I very much recommend getting your haircut here, but maybe just skip the k18. Just in general if your hairdresser does start running their hands through your wet hair kind of hard speak up earlier, I wish I had, and that was my fault. Anyway great place in general!Update: they don’t let us send replies to replies but I did want to say thank you and that I upped the number of stars because y’all’s response was so nice.“

“I just had an amazing first experience at 23rd Street Hair salon with Duneisy? I purposely booked an appointment with her because of a great review and they did not lie! Duneisy is very skilled at what she does. She made me feel comfortable with the choices I made and was so knowledgeable about the treatment and care for my hair that I trusted her right away. This will now be my go to spot and my go to stylist… and I’m excited to get extensions next. Today I did the Lasio Keratin treatment and my hair feels so sleek and soft and healthy. She gave me a great cut because of all my dead ends, took the time to educate me on care for my hair when I get home, recommended products that would truly help keep my style lasting longer. The atmosphere at the salon was inviting friendly and everyone including the owner made me feel so welcome. We laughed we chatted … the perfect spot for a gal/guy to get some hair therapy. “Came to the blonde co for a big color correction - my goal was to lighten black box dye which is notoriously difficult to do well. I was also growing out a bad DIY haircut and was a little embarrassed to have to bring the aftermath of it all into a professional salon to get fixed. First of all, Natalie was so gracious and instantly put me at ease about my hair. During the consultation she gave me multiple options for how to go about achieving my goals and laid out the pros and cons of each, and was very straightforward about the cost/time breakdown of each option and what results I could reasonably expect over the course of multiple visits. As a person on a budget, I really appreciated having all the information without feeling awkward discussing the cost. We went ahead with all-over bleaching, and considering I was starting with black hair I hung out there for a while. The vibe at the salon is friendly and relaxed and the space is beautiful. I thought I wanted to leave with my hair as light as possible and that I wanted it very warm, and Natalie achieved that for me. But when I got home I realized that my skin could not handle the orange tones. Before I left the salon, Natalie mentioned if I realized I wasn’t happy and wanted an adjustment in the next week to hit her up, and I decided to take her up on that option. She was able to find a time for me the following week to come back, and she helped me figure out what toning would help bridge the gap till I could come back in for highlights to achieve my ultimate blond goal. About an hour later my hair was absolutely perfect - she killed it. She was so kind and extremely generous about the adjustment. I can’t speak highly enough about this experience and I will definitely keep coming back.“
