About Red Hook Farms - Columbia Street Farm
Red Hook Farms is a youth-centered urban farming and food justice program in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Formerly known as Added Value, it became a project of Red Hook Initiative in November 2018. The organization operates two urban farm sites and offers various programs, including a teen farm apprenticeship, three weekly farm stands, a CSA, and a school workshop program. Since 2001, Red Hook Farms has strived to transform vacant lands into vibrant urban farms, improve access to healthy, affordable produce, and nurture a new generation of green leaders. The farm is a great place to visit on weekends, with a farm stand selling fresh produce on Saturdays. Visitors can enjoy the beautiful, well-maintained farm, filled with fruits, vegetables, and flowers, and relax in the chairs and tables provided. The staff is welcoming and friendly, and the farm hosts different events and workshops, so visitors are encouraged to follow the organization on Instagram for updates. Red Hook Farms also offers local tours and classes, including a Mid-scale Community Composting Tour as part of the NYC Master Composting Certification course. The tour provides informative insights into the different composting systems at the site and the history of environmental racism in Red Hook. The garden is an example of a green space where community members are taking action to address food insecurity, and the organization is praised for its inspiring initiatives and dedication to making the world a better place.
Excellent produce grown by dedicated and hard-working young people from the community.
