I can't believe that it has been over 10 years since I wrote the first review for The Ballroom of Reno! I guess I should update it! Am I partial toward The Ballroom of Reno? You bet I am! This is Northern Nevada's only nonprofit dance studio and they are doing everything they can to get everyone dancing. The research on partnership dancing and aging has been phenomenal! That alone should encourage everyone to dance! The Ballroom offers a free Dance With Me program for those who have cognitive and/or mobility issues such as Parkinson's or dementia. I have now had two excellent experiences with instructors at The Ballroom of Reno. My husband and I took a few introductory Batchata lessons with Gerzon and we both learned a lot and enjoyed his instruction. That experience brought us back when we needed dance lessons for our First Dance at our wedding. We purchased the two-class pack and started lessons with Aaron Singleton. Aaron blew us away from the beginning. He asked for a copy of our song ahead of our first lesson and at our first lesson had choreographed a dance for us with a simple basic step and cut down the song to the length I said I wanted to dance. My Fiance and I worked with Jill for our first dance choreography. Our goal was to do more than just sway the whole time and learn a few moves to our specific song. Let us just say she thought of everything! In a couple of sessions, we felt confident to practice on our own. She made the steps simple to understand so we didn't feel overwhelmed at all (even with no prior dance experience). The choreography is beginner friendly but looks complex and I can tell it will photograph beautifully.
