I can’t say enough about these people doctor, Dr. u and Dr Sigler are both amazing doctors. I have had nothing but wonderful treatment. My dogs feel right at home they take care of My petsas if they were their own pets. I have been coming to Sahara Pines animal hospital for 18 or 19 years now there’s a reason I stay with them. It’s because they are over the top when it comes to veterinary care it would be easier for me to go down the street. There’s the vet just down the road. There’s a couple closer to me then Sahara Pines, but I will drive a few extra minutes because my dogs are well taken care of. We are treated more than fairly with prices and our needs are always taken care of they’re compassionate, kind, professional knowledgeable and they are just wonderful people.. As long as they’re there, my dogs will be coming for their veterinary care to Sahara Pines again 10 out of 10 five stars… Georgiana Garcia

We LOVE Sahara Pines. Our poor girl had (bulldog) aspiration pneumonia. As soon as we saw she was having trouble breathing we called and let them know we were coming in. They saw her immediately commenced treatment, fluids, antibiotics, and O2. Dr Ziegler’s quick response and treatment got our girl back on the right track and home (thank god) that night for rest and recovery. If you have a bulldog and they are having trouble breathing do not wait get them to the vet ASAP. This isn’t the first time we brought them an emergency and they have always been on top of it doing their best.

It took me over a month to write this. I didn’t want to let emotions take over my review, I needed to err on the side of logic and compassion.

My pup Mulan had just come from the emergency vet 07/2024 having had an Addision’s crisis. Money was not a concern in taking care of my fur baby. (I spent $7,000+ in ER bills while sleeping on VEG’s ER couch for two nights. Even on a teacher salary, money and time doesn’t exist when you are fighting for those you love.) An ER vet recommended Sahara Pines. The 1st two visits, I would have given Dr. U six stars as he stated that he was there “for us for the rest of Mulan’s life”, he came in on his day off- a Sat, and he could actually talk “with,” not “at” us about Addison’s disease in pups. (I was so delighted that I recommended him to numerous colleagues at my high school because he listened and seemed to have Mulan’s well-being in his best interest.) Because we love our pups, and Addision’s was completely new to us, we self-educated via Journals of Veterinary Internal Medicine, canine endocrinology cases, current clinical studies on steroid effects, overdosing with DOCP shots, and read personal experiences of fur ball parents that other vets have closed their ears to. (We understood what we were reading as we have multiple master’s degrees in science and health.) We thought Dr. U was different, and maybe he is, but he’s just not for us. We paid attention to our pup’s reactions with the medicines and responded to blood work results; we do not follow “protocol” from a dated textbook. Mulan was not textbook case- she gained all of her weight back in three weeks after the ER crisis (in disbelief- the staff weighed her twice!), her electrolyte blood work came back as though nothing happened (Dr. U smiled the 1st two times). We took it upon ourselves to minimalize the steroids as it was putting her in hours long catatonic states, which Dr. U was shocked, but supported. Dr. U, at first agreed, we were doing everything right, then on the 3rd visit he changed his tone.

The third visit, I will err on my husband’s side, and agree he may have been having a bad day, but that still does not excuse his behavior to a patient. Out of respect for everyone I will not detail what happened. My husband and Dr. U went back and forth, like usual, about case studies on canine Addision patients, and they both seemed to be on the same page that if the electrolyte test came back normal there was no need for the DOCP shot. (Per scientific research, this is accurate.) Maybe whatever was going on in Dr. U’s life got the best of him, but he snapped at us and told us that even though Mulan’s electrolytes were perfectly fine that HE needed to follow textbook “protocol” and if he didn’t give her the shot that he could no longer be our vet.

We were willing to come back every week or two (which was a 60 minute city drive for us- each way!) and get the electrolyte test (more money in his pocket) rather than jeopardize (shorten) Mulan’s life. (We would never harm our pups- they have all lived well past 17 years old!) He said he’d refer us to an internal specialist because our choices were too much for him- he broke the client relationship; not us. We did nothing wrong than put our pup’s health as a priority over textbook “protocol”, time, or money.

On a happy, and ironic note, we found a new regular vet (one who Sahara Pines just let go due to overstaffing- fate!?!) They encouraged us to come back as often as we’d like to check Mulan’s electrolytes and cortisol levels. And we'll wait to see when her body decides that she needs her DOCP shot; a shot that is “overdosed” per current Addision’s research. It could be a week, a month, or never. I’m the caretaker of my fur baby and I am her voice.

*On a compassionate note, the vet that was displaced from Sahara Pines said that Dr. U was under a lot of stress during the time we sought to be a lifelong patient; I'm not sure.

I’d still recommend Dr. U, but

I am very very skeptical of vets but this whole clinic is changing the game.

The transparency and kindness of everyone here is absolutely insane and I appreciate them all so much

All my babies love Dr. Pennell, Dr. Zeigler, Dr. Ulitchny and all the staffs. My fur babies came every year for their annual exam, dental clean~ we appreciate everything they did to my dogs and make them always healthy. Thank you so much ?

Drs. Ziegler and Ulichny are two of the best human beings I know! The front office and techs are so nice and helpful as well.
