“I think HMS is struggling and for many reasons. Staffing is a big issue, experienced staff is difficult to come by in a small town and there in lies many of the issues. On a nationwide basis rural towns do not attract Doctors, medical staff or administrative staff which puts medical services providers between a rock and a hard place. Experienced medical staff, nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors etc. gravitate to the cities and wealthy suburbs, 'there are more doctors in Rio Rancho than all of Silver City'. Healthcare is exacerbated by long waits, it's 6 to 9 weeks to see Dr. Stinar, he recently moved to HMS, he has his own office in town, he is our only pulmonologist. On my most recent visit I saw a nurse practitioner, there is only one doctor on the staff at HMS, he starts the first week of December this year. My question concerning not being able to see a doctor is; who is supervising the nurse practitioners? Who over sees when the prescribe a medication or change a medication? They are all supposed to be supervised by a Doctor. I became concerned about my A1C, it's the number for sugar blood levels, mine has been in the 6.5 range for a long time, I take metformin to help with the uptake of sugar. And I don't diet. So I had a copy of my past blood test and I had a new blood test waiting for me. The person I saw did not look at my past test to compare them, I did not see the results of the new test while we were talking, I was told that my A1C was 6.1, my triglycerides were high and that my other numbers looked good. Then several days later, late in the day I get a call from someone who says you need to do something about your blood sugar level, this is high, that is high and your anemic as well. Thank you very much I know all that because I have copies of my blood test. I did not receive any consultation, I was not referred to a dietician or a real doctor, I was pushed out the door by a person who acted professional but did nothing in the way of caring for me medically. I asked her renew my metformin as the nurse practitioner who wrote the prescription is no longer available, 'the staff turn over is amazing, no one last long' they leave and no one pics up where they left off with patients they have been seeing. So I received a concerned phone call several days later after the visit, meaning the nurse practitioner failed to do her job and the staff was trying to do catch up. As it is you can not get service and you can not get the care and medicines you need without being proactive. HMS is trying out new and expensive innovation and they should be spending the time and money on education, and I don't mean on the job training. Soon you will be seeing a High School Student about your diabetes and HMS will be billing for a Doctor's appointment.“

“We are visiting family in Silver City. As I was preparing dinner I lacerated my thumb, when we couldn’t get the bleeding to stop we found Silver Health Care on E. 32 Street. From the moment we entered we were treated with respect and kindness. Everyone we had contact with was very professional and eager to help. I especially want to commend Susan Staples who did a great job of stitching up my thumb. She was supposed to be at a COVID clinic but when she saw how much I was bleeding she prioritized me and quickly patched me up. Thank you to the staff and especially Susan Staples! “Allison is a gem of an ortolaryngolist. Even in the chaos of our times, in the most rural medical scenarios our country has to offer, AJ displays a compassion and expertise that has made mine, and so many lives, better. THANK YOU!“
