“I was living in my mom’s home while she and her husband relocated to Florida for a new job. The plan was for me to make improvements to the house before it went on the market. One of those projects was redoing an upstairs bedroom for my son. I planned what I thought would be a simple weekend update—rip up the carpet, install gray hardwood floors, add white beadboard and baseboards, and paint the walls a deep nautical blue.
Like many DIY projects, it went sideways almost immediately.
As soon as I pulled up the carpet, I noticed dark, mold-like staining in the corners—especially under one of the windows. Out of concern, I cut into the drywall near the window and found significant black mold. At that point, I knew this was beyond a DIY fix. My first instinct was to treat it with bleach, but a quick search made it clear that wasn’t the right approach.
I called Sure Kleen, and that was the best decision I could have made. They came out quickly, treated the mold in that room, and also tested the other upstairs bedrooms—where they found additional mold around the windows.
As someone who wasn’t the homeowner and didn’t understand the insurance side of things, I assumed this was something we would just have to handle out of pocket. Sure Kleen walked me through the entire process, explained what was found, and helped make everything manageable and efficient.
Not only did they properly remediate the mold, but they also restored the space and put everything back together better than it was before.
