“Our 1918 house was largely destroyed due to an internal plumbing disaster, and RGH was the contractor we chose after a competitive bid process. We have never regretted our choice. TL;DR version: We are delighted with the work, which throughout was high quality and done with great communication and transparency. We built terrific rapport with Steve L, our project manager, who was responsive and straight-forward, and provided good options when we had to make hard choices. We love our home for the first time since we bought it in 2006.<br><br>Longer version: Turning our lemons into lemonade, post-disaster we decided to fix up the fixer upper we'd never had the time, patience or (until recently) money to actually fix up. Our home went from a mostly carpeted, hideously painted, 3 BR, 1 bath with window a/c units and a steam radiator system, to 4 BR, 2.5 bath with central air that works like a dream. All new hardwood flooring, new plumbing, new electrical, new walls and ceilings and paint and light fixtures and appliances and windows and doors and siding. New floor plans that worked better for our family, including merging the dining room and kitchen into our dream kitchen with incredible storage space and a spacious peninsula for additional prep and seating. We added an en suite and a walk-in closet to the primary; we opened the attic up to become a glorious light-filled combo office & guest space. I could go on and on but essentially we rebuilt the house, except for the roof and the front and back porches. And yes, we had a number of unpleasant surprises - as to be expected in a 1918 home when the walls and floors and ceilings are opened up. There were infrastructure issues and code upgrades to do, some anticipated, some not. Steve of course did not enjoy having to come back to us with that sort of news ($$$!), but he dealt with it with patience and creativity to try to keep our costs down wherever he could. Guests cannot stop gushing about how fabulous our home looks, and now (after 20 years living there) for the first time I actually enjoy hosting! We would hire RGH again in a heartbeat, especially for a big project like this, and certainly recommend them. And we particularly recommend Steve: his humor, energy, and focus made a big difference on this project.”
