“Tabou and her assistant did an amazing job on my knotless box braids!!! I was extremely nervous since this was my first time getting my hair braided but Tabou made it a comfortable experience.

She allowed me to bring my own synthetic hair since I wanted to complete an Apple Cider Vinegar rinse and shampoo on the hair to remove the alkaline lye coating.

She was transparent and upfront about pricing and the prices were reasonable.

She was flexible when it came to making sure that I choose a style and braid size were manageable for me as a first timer and that would compliment my face structure.

She even made sure to braid the synthetic hair to an appropriate length past my natural hair (which is mid-back length) so that when setting the synthetic hair with hot water, my natural hair wouldn't get burned.

I'm normally very "tender-headed" but when, Tabou and her assistant were braiding, I only experienced mild discomfort. At one point, I almost feel asleep because the environment was also peaceful with soft Nigerian music playing in the background!

I also really appreciated that before she used any product on my hair or scalp, she purposefully showed me each product and allowed me to take pictures and read the ingredients list (just in case I have allergies to any of the products used).

My favorite part about my visit...the results! My braids looked beautiful, neat, clean and professional. It also helped that there were two people working on my braids at once. Total time in the chair only lasted 4 hours and yes it was worth the wait!“

“Megan is super talented and a joy to be around. I was really nervous about my hair at first as I didn’t really know the style I wanted or what direction to go in. (Fun fact she did my hair also for my friends wedding and that’s where we met.) We started talking about my wedding and what hair styles I was thinking about doing and that’s where she brought the idea for a braid. That way I could have a hairstyle that is in between a updo and a down style. She absolutely nailed my hair, I showed her a pic of what I was thinking and then spoke what I didn’t like and I liked. “I had a great experience here! This was my first time being serviced at an African Braiding Salon, and I had a last-minute emergency where I needed my hair styled quickly for a wedding this week. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate me the same day I called.

While they do allow walk-ins, their website makes it clear that calling ahead and paying the $50 deposit is preferred to secure your appointment. I called at 8:30 AM and inquired about getting small, butt-length knotless braids. Mabel was able to fit me in for 11:30 AM. She greeted me with a warm smile when I arrived on time, and we discussed my style and pricing upfront before starting.

The salon was busy with other clients, but Mabel and two other young ladies worked together, rotating between clients and eventually all finishing my hair. Everyone was so friendly ?. We laughed and joked about TV shows, and Mabel was very considerate of my sensitive scalp, taking extra care with my edges as I requested.

“I recently had a great experience at Nikki’s African Hair Braiding salon. I had been trying to get my hair done for an event next weekend. I had booked an appointment with a stylist (in Fayetteville, where I reside) but she canceled on me 2x’s in a week. I was working in Cary yesterday and called salons close to my job but no one could get me in at the time when I got off (3:00). I had gone to Nikki’s in the past and she has always accommodated me.
