I’ve received nothing but quality cuts since coming to Big Mike’s shop in Lexington, and I won’t let any other barber cut my hair. I just got a cut yesterday. Sorry, the picture is at night, but it’s still fresh.
To address the customer who said Big Mike is racist. There are two problems with the characterization of “racist.” First, by definition, Big Mike CANNOT be racist because of being in the minority. Second, without personally sitting in the shop more than one time, you might not have seen that customers other than African Americans frequent the barber shop. I grew up in Miami going to old-school Cuban barbershops—no appointments, cash only, and full of character. Later, when I lived in Beijing, I went to an Egyptian barber who, like the Cubans, was extremely skilled with fades and classic cuts—again, cash only. Both of those experiences set the bar pretty high for what I’ve come to expect from a true professional barber.
Since immigrating to the U.S., I’ve chosen Big Mike Winston as my barber, and I can say without hesitation that he not only surpasses those earlier experiences in skill but also in kindness and professionalism. Big Mike knows what he is doing, he always does a fabulous job on my fiances hair. He is reasonably priced & I love how he has people be respectful in his barber shop and to others in there.
