I don't think I could ever walk back in here again and respect myself.

Took Sean Johnson's Bahkti flow class and it was on a different level. Amazing at setting the tone for the class, started with some chanting which I usually struggle with but it felt very natural with him. He opened up the mind with concepts of voice and artistry. Flowed perfectly into movements and finished off very peacefully. Would highly recommend.

This review is for prospective yoga teachers.I’m a ERYT500, RPYT, RCYT, who also has received training by Judith Lassiter in Restorative Yoga, Denise Kaufman in Yin Yoga, David Williams, Dharma Mittra, and I could go on. I’m telling you this so you understand that I have received a lot of training and have experience as a teacher for twelve years, so that you take my review with this in mind. For my continuing education I took and online training at AYC with Michael Johnson, and in person with Shala Worsley whose chakra and marmas program was perfectly on point! Both trainings were excellent. Delivered with deep knowledge and understanding of subject matter, with a way to implement the subject into your own practice. That allowed the time and space to feel and learn this wonderful practice of yoga. I highly recommend! Also, I want to shout out to Nick, program coordinator, who jumped through hoops for me and my very busy calendar, even when home sick with COVID - Thank you!And shoutout , to Ruth Ingram who I practiced alongside in South Florida - Hi!

My history with this place goes back to 2011 when I did the 200 hr yoga teacher training then. At that point in time, I would have given it 5 stars. But based on my recent experiences, I did not feel the quality of the classes I attended was worth the price ($24 per drop-in).There are several stand-out instructors who have been here for more than a decade and they consistently lead high quality classes (Joe, Shala, Michael Johnson, Tucker, and I’m probably leaving out a few but those are the ones I am most familiar with). However, if I drop in a class randomly that fits my work schedule and can not prioritize which teacher I go to due to limited free time, I have been disappointed and even left in pain (thankfully my own experience as a yoga teacher has helped me know what modifications I need in some classes). For the biggest studio in Asheville, I would expect for all of the teachers to be high quality, unless it’s clear the teacher is in training and therefore it’s a less expensive class, such as the $10 drop ins.

Have practiced here a few times with decent class sizes, but today had the horrifying experience of attending a class with 41 people in it. Mats were 3-6” apart. The front desk person told me many classes are this size. At the prices this studio charges it seems crazy to have to feel your neighbors breath while practicing. Lessons of Covid forgotten? It’s a shame; the space is nice and classes have been good.

I’ve been going here regularly for over a month now and I’m so happy I moved right nearby! The staff and teachers are all wonderful and welcoming, helpful and truly knowledgeable. This is a studio offering a variety of teachers and classes; I recommend trying out a handful of teachers’ classes to find the ones appropriate for you. There are classes appropriate for all ages and levels. I absolutely love Jess Slowe’s ‘Motown Funk & Soul Flow’ class on Sundays. It’s a well-paced, solid practice where I feel grounded and lighter and also got a good workout ? Brooke Sullivan’s Wednesday evening class is also amazing.

I love AYC with the variety of classes and affordable prices. One criticism I have is from my last Friday class when the instructor went 45 minutes over the class time. It was way too long, especially for people who had planned to stop by a grocery store before it closed and who were commuting by bicycle. The instructor should respect the time limit of each class and end the class on time. I usually have a good experience at AYC, except last Friday evening's class, in which the instructor went too long and went off their teaching topic. In general, this place is a wonderful space for the community.
