When I retired, I decided that since I had all of this unclaimed time I could start figuring out my own federal and state taxes. I did the forms for three years. But, I had forgotten, after having had DFI do our taxes every year for decades, that convoluted tax instructions involving mathematics and I have never been on good speaking terms. So my mother, who has her taxes done at DFI as well, said, and I quote her, "Seriously. You're an idiot. Go back to DFI." So I did. And DFI, looking at the federal and state tax documents I had filed for the three years, as well as this past year's, found more than $7000 that we were due but I had completely overlooked. And so DFI filed amended documents for me. Seriously, is there better proof available that I am an idiot? Never again will I do my own taxes. Bonus! Because my mother referred us, she got $50 from DFI as a reward for making the referral.
