I engaged ServiceMaster after a house fire, expecting a professional restoration. However, multiple items, including valuable and sentimental ones, were returned damaged or missing. Despite my thorough documentation and attempts to escalate, communication was inconsistent. The local franchise even closed before resolution. I urge anyone considering them to carefully weigh these risks, based on my direct experience.

WOW and THANK YOU! These are the words I had to say after ServiceMaster finished work in my home due to a fire in my kitchen. The quality of the work done was truly outstanding! My home looks brand new! Contacting ServiceMaster was one of the best decisions I made to take care of my home.

I moved to Lansing when I was a 25 year old sergeant in the Marines. I had just bought a house I had never seen and like many new homeowners, I had no clue what I had gotten myself into. On top of all the projects that started popping up, I woke up one morning, hit my alarm and it mushed right through my drywall directly behind the nightstand. I didn’t hit it very hard so I sat up and push the drywall around the hole. I started going around the room and realized my entire ground floor master bedroom had wet, mushy drywall. This extended through the master, into the bathroom and through the entirety of my walk-in closet. I had no idea what to do. I went to work and a Marine I worked with who had been in the carpentry business for 25 years started telling me about how much work it takes to clean up and i got sick to my stomach. I had been to Iraq twice at this point, but this was scarier than a combat tour because I was totally clueless. I called the insurance company as soon as I got home. That night, a representative from Service Master came and I was a mess. I was frustrated and wasn’t sure if this person would try to take advantage of me or not. I had three kids running around in diapers and was already overwhelmed with just being a dad. She assured me that she does this all the time and to let her company handle everything. I told her I’d trust her and was shocked by how quickly a crew started working downstairs. She laid out what the next few weeks would look like honestly. She told me what kind of work would be involved and what to expect. I went from feeling like I was totally lost and my new house was ruined to feeling like I had somebody - an expert- in my corner. Over the next few weeks, her crew continued to stop by, check on the fans, change out plastic surfaces and even brought back some of my stuff they had cleaned. The representative showed me the source of the moisture. It was a large gap in my wall left when the township installed a new electric meter on my home just days after I moved in. The time came where the rep sat me down and opened up a catalog. I had no idea what this was about and she told me it was time to pick out my new master bedroom. Every time I found an option that I thought was too nice or might be expensive, so told me she would find a way to make it work. By the time everything was over, I felt like I was on one of those home makeover shows. I had a beautiful master bedroom suite, an incredible bathroom makeover and my walk-in closet felt luxurious. Now while all that sounds like an ad for a company, like it is just too perfect, it’s exactly what happened to me. Every interaction I had was filled with compassion and professionalism. When the overhead fan on my stove caused my wall to catch fire while I was out of town, the insurance company gave me a list of people I could call for the damage and I called Service Master. When I came back, it was like nothing had ever happened. This is where I think of what the company really offers. I think restoration is a byproduct of what it really offers, which is relief. I was so scared about my new investment, my home and my family. I was scared of all the steps that I thought were ahead of me and all the things that I just didn’t know. This company came in and offered my family relief. These people took all that weight off my shoulders, were patient, professional and let me go back to living my life. I got to be a father and serve as a Marine at work with that piece of mind. It set me up for success in my new command at Lansing and really made the city feel like home to me.
