Mary Free Bed at University of Michigan Health-Sparrow provides advanced inpatient rehabilitation in Lansing, Michigan. In partnership with UM Health-Sparrow, the facility offers specialized care for brain and spinal cord injuries, stroke, amputations and more—helping patients recover closer to home. Patients and families describe the care as outstanding. The nurses were very friendly, super positive, and understanding. The physical and occupational therapists were excellent, terrific, and worked intensively with patients to help them move forward and realize the gains needed to go home. The doctors monitored and treated complex needs with thoughtfulness and expertise. All professionals worked closely together to optimize care, making patients feel safe. One patient’s mother arrived barely able to communicate and unable to walk. Within two days, the doctors recognized she had Parkinson’s. After a new medicine, she was talking, laughing, and working hard. When she left ten days later, she could walk with her walker, feed herself, and brush her own teeth—a miracle. Another patient spent two weeks after a stroke and was full of gratitude for the care. A grandson stayed over a month, and the staff was phenomenal, almost feeling like family. The meals were very yummy.
