About The Schvitz Health Club
The Schvitz Health Club is Detroit's original urban health club, established in 1930. This historic bath house offers ancient heat therapies and holistic healing. The Schvitz features two saunas, a pool, and seating areas, making it a beautiful space with many nooks to relax and spread out. The club is a popular spot for relaxation, meeting new people, and enjoying camaraderie. Guests can enjoy a patio area and a range of snacks for purchase, including some of the best burgers and steaks around. The club does not allow outside food and does not currently offer memberships or deals. Visitors can bring their own robe and sandals or rent them on-site. Large lockers are available for free, though it is encouraged to bring a lock for valuables. The club has designated men's, women's, and coed hours. The Schvitz is a smaller establishment that can get crowded, especially the women's locker room. It offers a range of amenities, including a cold plunge pool, steam room, and showers, all of which contribute to a relaxing experience. The staff at The Schvitz are known to be kind, respectful, and pleasant, making it highly recommended by guests.
It's been a while since I visited Schitz. The increased crowd is beneficial for the owner's profits, but the new rules have eroded the free-spirited atmosphere. The absence of certain amenities is disappointing. I had an unpleasant experience with comments from the owners when asked to cover up during relaxation on the men's day, despite not seeing any ladies present. It left me questioning the value of such restrictions.
Great, historic vibe with staff members who truly care about their clients! The only Russian banya with with the world famous Rib-Eye a la JJ, cooked to perfection smothered with mushrooms by The Schvitz’s legendary chef JJ Collins and served with an eternal smile by Heather, the hostess with the mostest, makes for a one-of-a-kind night out!
