The waits are pretty long and the fees are expensive, but they saved my kitty's life. After our regular vet misdiagnosed her, we brought my sweet middle-aged cat here where they brought her back to health. Now, just a few days after she was about to die, she's at home and playing with her toys. She wouldn't be alive without them. I will say, they need more vets. From what I've come to understand, they may only have one actual vet there at a time, and vets that do specific testing are only there on certain days, so it may take hours to days to truly find what's wrong with your animal. Still, they didn't push us into surgeries do have official diagnoses. When it was pretty clear what was going on, they just treat the animals for that instead of trying to pressure owners into the extra testing. The fees are crazy expensive. We couldn't really afford it, but having my precious angel home and on the road to health is worth it. So, if you can't get into your regular vets and are having an emergency, from my family's experience, your animal is in good hands.

I live 2 1/2 hours away and I called before I came for a non-life-threatening emergency and was told we would be seen when we got here. It is over three hours later and I am still waiting to have my dog seen. Being a retired vet I do understand the nature of emergency clinics and the process of triage but this wait time seems odd to me since there have been two patients in front of me the entire time. What I really object to, however, is continuously being told by a condescending 20 something year old there is one person ahead of me every time I ask about availability and I am continuously being told I will be seen within 5 to 10 minutes. The waiting room is long and narrow, extremely uncomfortable, and for some reason a lot of people feel compelled to approach dogs in an emergency waiting room to try to pet them. after waiting well over three hours I left with plans to go to another clinic. I don't recommend coming here unless you have a life-threatening emergency and nothing else available to you. This particular clinic seems to have a real problem with communication.

Had to pay an early morning visit for Mr Ziggy again. It seems problems always seem to happen on the weekend or after hours. Luckily, this clinic exists, and they are amazing angels!!! Thank you to all who were there tonight to help my kitty. The veterinarian is someone I've seen before, so it was comforting that he remembered us. They took very good care of Ziggy, he received an antibiotic injection, the vet gave some helpful suggestions, and they sent us home with a trial of meds for pain and comfort. I am always impressed with this clinic. Thank you for what you do! Arrived at 5:35am, and left around 7am. Not bad for an ER, they are super quick here!!

This place is the place to go in the area with an unfortunate pet emergency or specialty case. Years ago they helped one dog with compost poisoning and recently hey saved my younger dog after she was fully run over by a car. Both of her hips broke in multiple places in addition to some "mild" internal bleeding and pulmonary contusions - that resolved under their attentive care. We are fortunate the damage was not more severe. Not only is she alive, but she's also learning to walk again and continent. Our family is forever grateful to everyone who works there.

On October 11th 2023, I brought my dog Sawyer here due to vomiting/fainting after eating. I was informed there was $150 diagnostic fee to look an at animal but they make you sign a form saying they might need to do emergency testing that could cost as much as $1200. Well they performed just about every diagnostic test but could not figure out what the issue was. I spoke with Dr.Wilson about treatment and he recommend she spend the night for observation. They asked for $1000 deposit and she spent the night but was not making improvement. I visited her the next day and she still had made no improvement and was even getting worse, I was told fluid was pooling around her organs and they weren't sure why. Later that evening I received a call from Dr.O'brien saying that the IV they had given her had punctured and was the source of all the fluid that had been pooling. They stopped the IV and changed treatment course but said she should spend another night to see how she responds. The next morning I called and surprisingly they said she was doing great and had eaten and responded well to the treatment and would be able to release her that day! Great right? Well when I picked up Sawyer around 11:30AM on the 13th, she still did not seem right and was unable to walk out of the office needing to be carried. They gave a script for viagra and another for nausea and said she had a heart condition but it could be managed. My wife and I wanted to bring her to our own vet for evaluation due to continued laborious breathing and refusing all food and her medicine even when offered with peanut butter, so we called and scheduled a visit. Unfortunately by 6:00PM that evening Sawyer passed away while laying in her bed. Obviously upset about the situation I called the veterinary clinic the next morning in order to speak with someone, the receptionist informed me that no one was available and wouldn't be able to contact me until Tuesday so I asked her to take a message to please contact me to discuss my concerns. Well no one has called me or contacted me at all. I feel that this place is a cash grab as they never had a good explanation and took no responsibility for the IV snafu or even reached out to offer condolences. After spending in excess of $2880 at this place I expected to have a healthy dog but now the only consolation I have is that Sawyer passed surrounded by family. I will not ever bring another animal here.

I wish I could give 10 stars! I never write reviews but Portland Vet Emergency and Specialty care took the best care of my dog who needed bilateral TPLO for torn CCLs. Dr. Sullivan, Lindsey, Heather, Tammy, and the countless other amazing care team members spent over an hour with me before and after the appointment to walk me through what to expect, care instructions, payment options and breakdown of expenses, and took the greatest care of my dog who is my whole entire world. This was a very big deal for both me + my dog and they made a bad situation so much easier on us. I can't recommend them enough and will absolutely be a lifelong customer (although I hope I don't have to use their services too much in the future :)) Thank you PVESC team!

We brought our pup here for an emergency and I can not say enough about the exemplary care that was provided. For the minute we walked in, to the following day, everyone that we encountered was compassionate and knowledgeable. The staff went above and beyond to provide the best care and comfort to our pup. They treated our pup with such dignity and provided us with clear and supportive answers. We are from out of state and were extremely fortunate to have found this practice. A special note of thanks to Dr Eifler and Dr Landry for their knowledge, professionalism and extraordinary compassion. Truly exceptional!

It was the worst experience I ever had. They wanted to do a blood draw and an x-ray on my cat, and then told me I would have to pay $1450. I started to cry because I couldn't afford it. They could have cared less. I finally said I would at least find a way to pay for the blood work. $800 later they couldn't find anything and sent me home with a cat that wasn't eating or drinking. I don't understand how they can stand there stone faced and rolling their eyeballs as if I didn't WANT to spend the money.

I understand the dynamics of an emergency room and a wait is unavoidable. However, 5 hours for a simple UTI for my 18 year old cat is horrible. Tack on the 30 minute drive down from West Bath and it was bad. Cats are not a priority either. I get that a UTI is not an emergency, but when you have just moved and you don't have an established Vet and all the local vets were 2-3 days out and blood is in their urine, it becomes a little stressful for all. The was the worst part, watching my poor stressed out cat having to be in a cage that long. I was able to take here out for a while but she was still freaked out. I was not the only one in this situation. Next to me a poor girl and her cat had waited 5 hours only to be told that the cat scan could not be done today, that the guy who does it went home! Listened to others waiting and waiting too. AVOID IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!

I brought my dog to this practice on 7/10 due to ingestion of foreign bodies. During my visit there were several unprofessional and concerning behaviors that I experienced. Below are the results of my visit and subsequent follow-up discussions. 1. The event timeline was documented on my check-in paperwork and reviewed with the tech who checked her vitals as well as the doctor. When speaking with the administrative staff, I asked why they had not induced vomiting and was told that it was because she had ingested the foreign body Friday into Saturday that the window was too long, which is not accurate. 2. Upon entry to the room, the doctor asked if I was "maybe overreacting". This statement was made before a x-ray was performed. I explained that my dog's vet had recommended I bring her in and at that time an x-ray was ordered. I shared this with the administrative staff as well and was told on the first call that she had 'never had a complaint about this doctor before and couldn't believe that would happen'. On the second call, I was told that the doctor apologized for the comment and that she only made it because she felt at that time that my dog was okay clinically. 3. When the tech came in to take my dog for her x-ray, it appeared she held my dog by her harness and referred to it as "her minpin holder". I brought this up to your administrative staff and was told that the tech said she was holding her under her abdomen as well, so she was secure, and that's how she "holds her small dogs". I was told this would be used as a 'teaching moment' for her staff. 4. When the tech in comment #3 had come in the room I also mentioned that my dog needed to urinate. She said they would check her to see if she needed to go. When my dog was brought back to me and I picked her up, I noticed that her bottom and my sweatshirt were now wet. I also brought this up to the same administrative woman I had been talking to and she told me that when speaking to the tech learned that when they took my dog out back for her x-ray, that she had urinated on the x-ray machine. They had washed her and given her back to me, never mentioning that any of that had happened. They also had not put my dog out when this happened because she assumed she had emptied her bladder, but when I left 30 or so minutes later and put my dog down, she urinated a large amount and for reference, she is a roughly 7-pound minpin, and her bladder can only hold so much. Your administrative staff also deemed this another 'learning opportunity' and made a comment that 'some people take longer to learn than others'. 6. When I woke up Wednesday and noticed my dog had vomited up large pieces of what she had ingested, I called this practice to see if she needed to come back and was told "I don't know what to tell you, that's up to you." I spoke with my primary vet. 7. Regarding the administrative woman I spoke with, I don't remember her name. She was cold, unkind, unemotional, and lacked complete empathy. It was clear that she is focused solely on protecting her staff. She was defensive, which caused me to become defensive to the point of tears and anger. She has made me feel completely unheard, unsupported, and insulted. I requested a refund on the office portion of my visit based on the experiences outlined above and was told that they had done the services so they wouldn't be doing a refund, which would be $140 for the exam and $38 for the vet technician cost, as a reminder it is the vet tech who she will be using my experience as a 'teaching moment'. I didn't pay your practice to educate your staff, I paid them to perform a service at a level in which anybody would expect, which you admittingly did not achieve. This practice also has several new negative Google reviews within the last few days that I encourage you to read. In conclusion, this is not the practice that you want on your side in a time that is uncertain, unclear, and ultimately scary. Also,
