Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary provides exceptional care and service to its patients. The staff is supportive and calming, even under urgent circumstances. They conduct thorough exams and tests, and the vet takes the time to explain results in a clear and understandable manner. The team is kind, inviting, and efficient, working quickly to diagnose and treat cases with care and compassion. They have always provided competent and compassionate care to animals and offer an incredibly valuable service, able to provide care over the weekends and in the evenings. The care from this veterinary clinic was extraordinary, with staff willing to see very sick old dogs at midnight. They laid down carpet so pets could walk to rooms with sofas, low lighting, and a beautiful comfortable rug, leaving ample time for goodbyes. They administered drugs compassionately and kindly, making it so owners were not distraught about leaving pets for cremation, knowing they would be cared for wonderfully. They were so nice and the room for procedures was set up to be as cozy and un-clinic like as possible, which helped so much.
We recently brought in our mainecoon cat when he had a sudden life threatening emergency. When we arrived, they took our boy quickly and tried to help him. Sadly, he was experiencing heart failure and nothing was stabilizing him. The vet took the time to explain everything to us and was very honest about possible outcomes. Our boy sadly passed away on his own, but the vet let us into the room with him to be with him as he took his final breaths. When he was gone, they let us use a private room to be with his body as long as we wanted. It was an incredibly difficult death, but the vet explaining everything to us was a blessing. We knew it wasn't our fault thanks to him and he made sure we understood the reality of the situation. They refunded all the costs that would have gone towards testing and let us do a private cremation. Some of the bad reviews here can make this place seem cold and uncaring, but that's just not true. They did everything they could for our cat and were compassionate the whole time. Just because they talk to you about billing doesn't mean they're cruel. They have to do this to prevent people from not paying for treatment if they don't get their desired outcome. Please don't be afraid to go here. Our cat's passing was not their fault and they allowed him to pass naturally with access to oxygen. We got his ashes quickly as well. We're very grateful for how kind and efficient the vet we saw was, even though our boy was too sick to make it. We never felt like they didn't care and it helped during such a horrible emergency.
We have utilized Eastern Maine Emergency vet numerous times over the past decade. They have always provided competent and compassionate care to our animals. I am grateful that we have a local emergency vet that is able to provide care over the weekends and in the evenings. They provide an incredibly valuable service.

Because he could not walk on shiny floors, they laid down carpet so he could walk to a room where he would cross the rainbow bridge. It had sofas, low lighting and a beautiful comfortable rug. They left us ample time to say goodbye to rockstar, one of the loves of our life. Then they came and administered the drugs, now at 1am, and were so compassionate and so kind. We were on holiday when he passed so we could not let him pass at home, or take his body with us to bury at home.
