“I was extremely pleased with the service from Universal Tree Expert. I phoned them on 3/9/24 to get an estimate for pruning my Crepe Myrtle tree which is the centerpiece of my front lawn. They provided me with the free estimate the same day and my tree was beautifully pruned a few days later. There was no damage ro my existing landscape and all debris was removed. The service providers Nick and Tony were friendly, courteous and professional. The cost of the pruning was reasonable. They took great care to protect our lawn as much as possible when navigating their equipment to remove two huge 50+ year old maple trees and one large pine from our backyard. “I attempted to contact Mr. Seek several ways. It was rather difficult to track him down, but I eventually managed to schedule a time to meet and discuss my project. He was a tad late to our meeting, but that's understandable in this area. We started discussing things and he gave an estimate of $300 per tree. For some of the work this seemed reasonable, but there were some trees where he himself said it wouldn't require a lot of work. This lead me to wonder why I would pay $300 per tree when some required a fair amount of work while others were as simple as removing a single, small branch. Mr. Seek seemed very approachable and was knowledgeable about trees, but his pricing structure was not as well thought out as it should have been.“

They are regularly relied on and contracted by local municipal and state Urban Forestry Divisions (UFD) to carry out efficient, knowledgable trimming of healthy trees, and removal of hazardous and damaged trees in public space. They know their business well enough to meet the very stringent DC urban forestry regulations. For readers that are unfamiliar, City inspectors are everywhere, every day. The penalties for permit violations of improper tree work or public space violations in DC are serious. To avoid these penalties, successful contractors must be attentive and exact in how they operate within regulations. Excel is expert in maintaining compliance, for themselves, and for private residential or business owners who hire them. Its win-win-win when the rules are followed.I hired them to remove two (2) hazardous trees: old/dead and permitted for removal by DC's UFD, as well as one (1) giant 88" circumference pine tree (fee permitted for removal) and two (2) 42" circumference unwanted/nuisance trees.Once I proved the permits were complete, they also check with the city themselves, they scheduled the job for just over a week later. They arrived exactly on time for job survey, setup and started work at the permitted time. Their machines and manual work was highly coordinated and efficient. The team of about seven (7) were highly skilled professionals: coordinating bucket truck for access, crane for removal, ground crew for segmentation and loading to the logging truck, and chippers and forestry labor to make sure clean up happened as the branches fell. Great teamwork. No nonsense.The price I paid was reasonable for the degree of expertise and the extraordinary efficiency that the work was executed. This is dangerous and expertly skillful work. I've done a lot of tree work and root work, yard labor, etc. myself. Excel Tree Experts were very impressive and effective, indeed.My point of contact was Ephraim for our contract. A real gentleman, congenial and easy going. No games, no hidden surprises. The Excel office staff with whom I communicated by email were courteous and efficient.
