“I was 1st diagnosed with Alpha Gal in 2016 after going into anaphylactic shock one day after eating beef. It of course took several weeks for the diagnosis of an allergy I had never heard of, and I was quite upset to find that I needed to eliminate beef, pork and most dairy from my diet.Over the next several months I learned that I not only needed to vigorously manage my diet and how my food was prepared, but ensure I used only vegan shampoos, soaps, deodorant, and detergents.I was able to avoid another incident of anaphylaxis but did make a few trips to Urgent Care over the years due largely to cross-contamination and would need a dose of prednisone at least once a year to calm down the skin inflammation I would experience, in spite of my best efforts to avoid them.Late in 2022 a family member shared a study by the NIH with me regarding Soliman Auricular Allergy Treatment (SSAT) acupuncture treatment for alpha-gal and other allergies.After a search for local providers, I was referred to Jennifer Stapanon of Body-Mend Therapies in Leonardtown, MD. Jennifer placed the small needles in my right ear where they remained for 3 weeks.Jennifer also took the time on the 1st visit to perform what was an incredibly detailed interview of my entire medical history, and also treated me for issues such as joint pain, stress and sleep deprivation, all with fantastic results.Easter came a short time later and I carefully experimented with a small portion of ham – no reaction. Later that week I had a slightly larger portion – no reaction.In the coming weeks I would try a bit of steak, and then an entire 9 oz. steak, and eventually the meal I missed the most, Kansas City Baby Back Ribs – no reaction.This has truly been life changing and I recommend her treatments to anyone in need!Joe“
