If I could rate this establishment ZERO stars I certainly would!

First off, I had been eyeing this establishment for a while and wanted to try thI due to their holistic approach and i a seemingly successful Black Owned Business that I would give them a try.

I made an appointment on November 8th for a Silk Press (New Client) service to take place on November 19th at at 9:30 a.m. The appointment was reviewed and confirmed soon after I submitted the appointment request. I received several email and text reminders leading up to the appointment. I confirm the appointment as requested and I looked forward to my appointment.

On the day of my appointment, November 19th. I get a text at 8:51a.m. from an employee through their automated scheduling system that my stylist is running behind and will be 20 minutes late. I reviewed this message as I was en route to the salon and thought to myself “this already is starting off on the wrong note”. However, I tried to have a positive attitude and extended grace as there might be an extenuating circumstance as to why my stylist is running behind.

I arrive to the salon about 10 minutes before my scheduled time which was 9:30 a.m. and still had time to spare as the stylist was running 20 minutes behind.

I get a call and voicemail from a salon employee as I am sitting outside of the salon. I did not notice the call went to voicemail as I was already on the phone with a family member. When I noticed there a voicemail, I finished up my conversation and quickly went to listen to my voicemail.

This is what I received:
“Hi, this is MGB holistic hair care I was calling in reference to your appointment today so I know we contacted you stating that your status will be running late um she was running late due to not feeling well which she actually am at this point has decided that she's not feeling well enough to come in so we do apologize for the inconvenience but wanted to know if we could reschedule you for tomorrow um we do have a stylus that will be able to take care of you tomorrow and then we will also discount your service for the inconvenience. Have a great day!”

You mean to tell me, the stylist went from being 20 minutes late to not showing up at all because she was feeling “sick”??

Of course after receiving this message, I immediately go into the salon to speak with someone to seek clarity and ask about accommodations for THEIR issue and my inconvenience. I walk into the salon and there is only one stylist who seems to only do natural hair styles like twists and such. She had about 3 gentleman there who are waiting for their appointments at about 9:30am.

I tell the stylist the information I just received and ask if there is anyone else available who can service me today due to their stylist calling out at THE LAST MINUTE. She asked me to hold on while she calls, I assume either the owner or another stylist to see if someone can assist me.

After she gets off the phone, she tells me that the other stylist who knows how to do silk presses is out due to her birthday and there is no one else who can service me today. However they could reschedule for another day and give me a discount on my service for the inconvenience but that’s all they can do.

Of course, I sat there in awe of the piss poor customer service that I was experiencing and felt my blood boiling out of frustration. So I thought it wise, to remove myself from the establishment, get in my car, and think of an alternative plan.

Mind you, I had the appointment scheduled for MY engagement for the following day. You can imagine the distress I was in.

This type of PISS POOR customer service experience is what gives black women PTSD and anxiety when making appointments for their hair and other maintenance services. I shouldn’t have to have a Plan B and Plan C when making an appointment to get my hair done.

If I were you, I would patron a business that actually values your time and prioritizes customer service.

Consistently good service, and hair growth!! I've struggled for years with the health of my hair; I'm talking breakage, dryness, thinning, the whole nine. Since going to MJB for the past year (time flies when you're having fun!), I can confidently say that I've seen a change in the health of my hair for the better. Not to mention the ladies are funny, kind, and knowledgable, which is always a plus!! I love me some MJB :)
