Coming in halfway through the process of euthanasia to ask a grieving family to pay their vet bill is incomprehensibly apathetic. You couldn’t have waited 20 more minutes to allow someone to simply sit and feel within the last moments of their animals life? Cruel and inhumane. If that wasn’t awful enough, sprinkle in some lack - or rather, complete absence of - accountability from the receptionist who provided a faulty quote. Needless to say this clinic would rather focus on extracting dollars from a mourning family’s wallet than demonstrate an ounce of decency and compassion.

We called to inquire about euthanizing our 14 year-old cat and were quoted $143 for euthanasia and communal cremation with no extras. As cost was a factor, we chose to book with Sherbrook. They required a $50 deposit as it was short notice. We took our cat in the next day, wrapped in a towel and barely breathing. The receptionist seemed friendly at first, but something felt off. She proceeded to go through an entire exams worth of questions about my cat, her diet, her bathroom habits, etc. This was extremely emotionally taxing as I was already there to just put my cat down. The vet then came in, Grabbed my cat by the scruff of her neck, pulled on it and looked at me and said that she was severely dehydrated. He also then confirmed with the receptionist, who was in the room, that it was in fact time to put my cat down. Apparently, she doubted whether or not it was time. Last time I checked, that was my decision. The vet proceeded to do an exam, he was extremely rude, lacked any sort of compassion, and made me feel like I had done something wrong. After the exam was completed, we were put in the surgical suite at the back of the building. The vet eventually came in. He told me that my cat was so severely dehydrated that he might not be able to get a needle into her vein, and if that was the case, he was going to have to inject her directly into her heart. His tone was harsh and lacking any kind of empathy. He then gave my cat the sedative portion of the euthanasia. He left the room stating he would be back in a minute at which time the receptionist came in with the card reader requesting payment. She informed us that the total was Close to $350. After the $50 deposit we had already put down. According to the receptionist, “The girl we talked to“ (Turns out it was HER) Made a mistake and misquoted us. My feeling is that she was already aware of her error. And coming in to collect payment halfway through euthanasia procedure is absolutely wild Work. I informed her that we will not be paying that amount as it was her fault and that we would not have attended that facility if we knew the actual Price. It was then that she got the office manager The manager was apologetic. She is the one who confirmed that it was in fact the same receptionist that misquoted us even though she acted like it was somebody else. I made it extremely clear that this was an error on their part and it was up to them to correct it. I couldn’t very well collect my cat and leave, now could I? You already gave her the sedative injection. After much back-and-forth with the manager, she did what she could to make it right. She removed the exam and sedation fees and allowed us to pay $50 for the communal cremation. All this to say, DON’T GO HERE! They made an already difficult experience, so much worse. The receptionist is incompetent. The vet is rude and has zero compassion. At least the manager was helpful.

I have mixed thoughts about this clinic.
The staff are nice and vets are good. But thier systems/ procedures need some work.
This is the 3rd vet that took a look at my dog's chronic ear infections. The previous vets prescribed ear drops but the infection eventually returned afterwards. The vet here showed me how to properly wash out the ear weekly and It made a HUGE difference. No eardrops needed.
However thier system emailed me that my dog needed shots but when I went to the appointment I booked based on this email, It showed that all the shots were up to date.
I also tried to transfer all my animals and thier records to this vet but because my cats are not due for shots yet, they will not add them until I book an appointment for them. They were not due for anything for 6-7 months from the time I transferred all thier records from the previous vet.

I have been bringing my dog Amigo here for about a year now. Had her first shots, spay and few incidents looked at. Staff are excellent and friendly, prices are competetive. The Vet is very knowledgeable and cares about the animals, doesnt try up selling things he feels is unneeded which seemed to be the norm with other clinics I took my past pets to.

I've been taking my cats to this vet since they were kittens- about 5 years now. The vet and employees have always been helpful and reasonable. They're friendly and go the extra mile. I recommend this animal hospital to people all time. I think they do a great job with care and also preventative measures.
There is always good parking out front or in the side parking lot. I'm happy to support a vet in the West End.
Thanks again!

The exam room was clean and neat. The assistant did the preliminary exam. Dr Herkewal then examined our cat and administered his vaccines. Dr Herkewal enquired about our cats habits and the discussion revealed a risk of worms so he recommended and deworming medicine. Dr Herkewal is gentle, caring and thorough.
