“I went to Hair Haven for their head spa service with Marissa Marques as a birthday treat to myself. I also shared during the scalp analysis that I’m currently 4 months postpartum and experiencing the typical postpartum hair shedding.

The service itself started out really relaxing (I even fell asleep at one point). Unfortunately, things took a turn at the end of the service when my hair was being detangled. My hair became extremely tangled/matted in a way it never normally does (even after swimming in saltwater or chlorine). I noticed right away something wasn’t right while she was trying to detangle starting mid-shaft instead of from the ends up.

What followed was honestly pretty stressful. Over the course of about 3 hours, around 6 stylists helped work through the matting in my hair. What was supposed to be a 1.5 hour service turned into a 4.5 hour experience, and I was genuinely worried I might have to cut my hair off. As a postpartum breastfeeding mom who had a baby waiting at home, it was overwhelming.

That said, I truly want to recognize the incredible effort from the team to make things right. Niki, the owner, was extremely empathetic and apologetic. She and Sarah, along with another stylist whose name I unfortunately didn’t catch, took turns patiently detangling my hair between their own clients and ultimately saved it. Multiple stylists checked in on me and reassured me throughout the process, which meant a lot during a stressful moment.

Niki went above and beyond by comping the service and sending me home with some products without me even asking, which I genuinely appreciated. Her level of accountability, customer service and the support from the team is the reason I’m giving 4 stars.

While I’m grateful for how the salon handled the situation, I do wish there had been more attentiveness from Marissa after things went wrong. She did apologize as I was leaving, but I didn’t really see her check back in while the rest of the team was helping resolve the issue.

Overall, while the situation itself was stressful, I’m thankful to the team at Hair Haven for stepping in, saving my hair, and doing their best to make things right.“
