“We began taking our grandkids to Olive's when it was located on Washington St in Brighton over 10 years ago. We were watching Cityline and we saw the credits at the saying that Olive's did Karen Holmes Ward's hair. We took our oldest granddaughter to have her hair done as a gift to her before she started school in September. She looked spectacular. Charmaine did an awesome job. She guided me to Sally's with a list where I bought everything our granddaughter would need. When the aforementioned granddaughter started college her parents were driving her to SC and would be away for a few days. Our youngest granddaughter came to stay with grandpa and me, grandma. It was clear her hair needed attention. I took her to Target to buy a toy telling her we would go to Olives after shopping. No! was her answer. I told her no haircut, no toy. Thankfully the thought of picking out a toy of her choice ($20 limit) won over. We purchased the toy and then drove over to Olives. After a couple of hours she had a wash and comb out, cut and braids (thanks Altine) with beads. We drove home. Before I parked the car I asked her if she wanted to go into the house to show grandpa. She bounced out of the car and went running into the house with a face full of smiles. I took my list from Olives and went off to Sally's and bought everything on the list.Since that time our middle grandkid, a boy, has had his hair braided by Altine!Olives has moved from Brighton but still maintains their stellar staff. Ever since I have embarked on the curly hair journey, I have found that there are so few curly hair stylists in and around Boston who can truly work wonders with curly hair. I finally went for a haircut after 2 year break, and was really nervous. But Helaine assured me she knew what she was doing made me feel very comfortable. So much so that I actually went ahead and got highlights on my virgin hair. She was careful not to overwhelm me. But she gave me the option of coming back in a week to get more bold with the colour and I did go back. She happily accommodated me and I love the final look. I am definitely going to be a regular at Helaine.“
