Japanese Hair Salon Defi

It was my first time getting a digital perm. I wasn’t sure how they’d turn out once my appointment was done, but it turned out beautiful and exactly what I had asked for! I love the results so much! I kept getting compliments from people. Jack did an amazing job with my hair. First photo is the before, second photo is right out of the salon, and last photo is my hair after the first wash. I love how easy my hair is to maintain even with the curls!

Defi salon is a treat! The staff is accommodating and professional. My hair always looks perfect. It is the only salon I would trust with my hair!

For what you pay, close to $150 without tip, this is not worth it. I had my appt with Jack (Arata) and he made me feel like:

1. I was asking for too much for a haircut that I am paying over $100 for.
2. Didn't know what I was talking about at all, he made me feel very stupid. It felt like I was getting yelled at by him constantly.

Overall, the haircut itself was ok, but that was after I had to ask him to make various adjustments. It felt like he didn't really understand the style I was asking for, which I believe was not a complicated one. I expected more from a professional hairstylist. And the hospitality and experience I had as a customer was pretty awful. The lady who washed my hair was very nice and gentle though. To be honest, I would not recommend, you'll be better off going somewhere else.

I’ve had Japanese straightening done in several states across several salons (NY, CT, Nashville), some twice the cost, I WILL NEVER GO ANYWHERE ELSE AGAIN!

1. The cost is extremely fair and they provide a discount for cash payments
2. Jack is fantastic and gave great advice for general hair health/breakage improvement. He is also very kind and doesn’t force small talk the whole time, but is happy to answer any questions you have or chat if you so desire. He was also thorough with follow up instructions
3. Hands down, without a doubt, the best results I’ve ever had, by far…friends and family even noticed improved results
4. Nice luxury touches such as eye towel, face steaming, head massage, and essential oil diffuser
5. Another staff member washed my hair and she was SO incredibly nice and gave me lots of great tips for living in Boston
6. I believe Liscio was used and was given a choice of scents for part of the treatment as well as sent home with a hair mask treatment to use following my appointment which I’ve never been provided before!

I never write reviews, but anyone who has had these knows how hard it is to find salons that perform these, let alone do them well. This is the place and Jack is your guy! They have another staff member that performs these, but I have not used her yet. Give them a try, you won’t regret it.

This is my favorite salon to go to. I always feel taken care of. I’ve worked with both stylists and they are both pros and they always give me advice on hair care!! The head message is so relaxing. Can’t wait to go back!

After an email consultation and excitedly waiting 2weeks for my appointment, I finally visited the salon yesterday and got the Japanese Straightening service. And I was not disappointed! Jack was great, he saw some old highlights on the bottom inches of my hair. He pretreated that area and put the perm product on that area for less time. Throughout the appointment he let me know what was next and also informed me how to care for hair immediately after the treatment and beyond. As you sit in his chair, you gain confidence quickly that he knows what he’s doing,…and he definitely is a craftsman.
The two people who assisted him, and washed my hair (numerous times)., were professional and very kind and considerate. And I hate to say just washed, because they went above and beyond and it really felt more like a spa treatment. They definitely made the experience feel like a day of pampering.
A definite bonus is well, if you pay cash you get a pretty decent discount. Much appreciated!
Now to my hair. I’ve spent my life fighting my curls. The past two years I embraced the curl and did not straighten. But the fact is my hair is a lot of frizz, some curl, some wave and even if I get it right, it’s very temperamental and just won’t stay nice. Forget the beach, humidity, open windows in a car, basically living life and my hair is out of control. I’m too old to deal with that nonsense anymore!
Yes it’s only been one day, but my hair is super soft, super straight, and I look human once again. I am so thankful to Defi! For the amount of people involved in my treatment, the amount of time it took , along with a lot of work on their part, you soon realize it’s not overpriced at all. Worth every penny. I will definitely be going back.

I’ve been going here for 1.5 years and have been immensely pleased every appointment! Jack is my main stylist (cut, bleach, and henna), and he always does a phenomenal job! Hikaru does my tsuya mizu and not only can I feel the difference on my scalp, but it’s so relaxing that I almost fall asleep in the chair every time. ? Honestly, everyone here is wonderful, caring, helpful, and so creative. I can’t wait for my next appointment - highly recommend Salon Defi!!

Specialties: To my knowledge this is the only salon that provides Japanese head spa (tsuya mizu) in Boston - highly recommend! They also provide henna hair coloring!

Hair type: I have thin slightly wavy hair which is naturally dirty-dishwater blonde. After bleaching my roots, Jack applies henna and I leave with beautiful Lucille Ball orange hair.

Always love going to Salon Defi!! Highly recommend Jack and Chikara for a quality-haircut.
