I was negotiating to purchase a building parcel on Martha's Vineyard. Before I bought it I wanted to be sure I would be able to afford building a 2500 square foot house on it. MV Post and Beam was recommended by several people in our church. I called Jon and we met him at his house, which he uses as his office and as an example of a typical post and beam house. Initially we were attracted to the company because they sounded much less expensive than stick building. We wondered if there would be a quality compromise, but after seeing several houses under construction and his, I think the quality may be higher than if we build from scratch. We also liked that they build regular houses without post and beams. We particularly were attracted to the fact that Jon was local and a private company that represented American Post & Beam - he was not their employee. And as he said, and we agreed, he had more influence in helping to insure that things went well. It seemed that MV Post & Beam was in the perfect position to help us navigate the process. American Post and Beam depended on them to sell their houses and would want to keep Jon's clients happy, while the local independent general contractor was in the same position of depending on MVPB for the referrals. We really liked that. We found that Jon was always available to counsel us in the process - very generous with his time. Ultimately, however, we did not get the land we were bidding on. We still hope to build an American Post and Beam house, but wanted to write this to thank Jon for his help.
