Firstly, If I could give NO STARS I Absolutely would. My family member passed and is currently at Lavenias. I first must say that she looked beautiful at her viewing, her makeup was perfect, as she was well prepared. So, I will say good job to the those involved in that part of the process! Thank you. However, I was extremely saddened by the treatment that my family and I received by the woman responsible for guiding us into the room where my family member (the deceased) was to be viewed. I didn’t catch her name unfortunately, however it was Thursday, June 11,2026 @ 2:25pm … This person I am speaking of was a lighter skinned female with Locs in her hair. She was extremely RUDE, to say the least. She lacked any empathy or kindness or softness. She was very obviously ready to go (we were about 10mins late), we were apparently holding her up and she made that clear by her disrespectful behavior. She never said anything in particular, but her hateful personality said more than enough. She was rushing us and VERY NASTY ABOUT IT. The fake smiling and dry demeanor was unacceptable. When a family has experienced the loss of a loved one, it is imperative to be kind and show empathy, REGARDLESS of whether or not the family arrives a few mins late or not! I did not appreciate being made to feel bad for anything, and having to deal with this persons nasty attitude, while grieving the loss of my dear loved one. Hopefully she will be made to undergo more extensive training, in what it takes to work closely with decedents/family of the deceased. Especially when the loss is one of tragic and sudden circumstance. I’ll pray for this individual, as it seems it is necessary.

Thank you George! Lavenia and Summers helped make a very difficult time better. George actually made us smile and forget all the drama and pain whenever we got together. He made us feel like we were old friends hanging out for a few minutes. Nobody wants the responsibilities of planning a funeral. George and Lavenia helped us feel like we had a team and the support system that family often refuses to be. It was just business, but excellent customer service makes you feel confident about your business decisions and who your doing business with. Going with L&S was a great move for us.

We utilized Lavenia and Summers to bury my daddy. We worked with Miss Joie, alongside Reverend Peck. Miss Joie is awesome, compassionate, and did everything in order and decency. Cremation was the route and she explained the process to us so well, I felt comfort during the entire process. The "urn spray" was one of Miss Joie's favorites, and I am so glad we chose that option because she had my daddy's urn looking so beautiful. This was my first time working with Lavenia and Summers and I am grateful we went in this direction. Definitely would recommend Lavenia and Summers. Ask for Miss Joie and if possible, Reverend Peck as well. Awesome team 💖☺️

When Grief Meets Greed…
My family and I recently trusted Lavenia & Summers to handle the final farewell for my dearly loved nephew, and I will say this as bluntly as possible: if you value compassion, understanding, and basic human decency, take your loved one somewhere else.
Yes, they took care of his body physically. But the way they treated us as a grieving family was cold, heartless, and inexcusable. Funeral Director Stephanie Goldsmith was not only inconsistent, but flat-out unsympathetic and unbending when it mattered most. We asked for one single extra day to secure the remaining funds to bury him properly, and she refused. One day. That lack of flexibility and humanity revealed her true priorities—money over compassion, business over people, the bottom line over basic decency.
This is supposed to be a profession of care and empathy. Instead, under Stephanie’s leadership, it felt like a soulless transaction. Families already drowning in grief should not have to beg for mercy from the very people they’ve trusted to guide them through it.
And here’s the kicker: another funeral director at the same location had the humanity to at least ask how much more time we needed. So don’t tell me it couldn’t be done. It could—it just wasn’t done by Stephanie. That was a deliberate choice.
I worked with Lavenia & Summers years ago when Lavenia herself was in charge, and back then they set the gold standard. But those days are clearly gone. What remains is a business that has lost its heart and forgotten its purpose.
So let me be very clear: I will never recommend Lavenia & Summers to anyone. If you want your family treated with dignity, go somewhere else. Don’t give your loved one’s final farewell to people who see you as nothing more than a bill to be collected.
Stephanie, you should seriously reconsider your role in this field. If you cannot summon the compassion to treat grieving families with respect and care, then you do not belong in this profession. Period.
Lavenia & Summers, you have lost our trust, our respect, and any chance of our recommendation. To other families—do not make the mistake we did. Choose a funeral home that still remembers what this work is really about: compassion, not cash.

When Grief Meets Greed... My family and I recently trusted Lavenia & Summers with the final farewell for my beloved nephew. While they cared for his body with professionalism, the way they treated us as a grieving family was disgraceful and needs to be exposed. Funeral Director Stephanie Goldsmith was, at best, inconsistent—sometimes polite, but more often cold, dismissive, and completely lacking compassion. When we asked for just one additional day to secure the funds needed for his burial, she flat-out refused. Not one week, not several days—just one single day. That refusal showed us exactly where her priorities are: the money first, the family’s grief dead last. In this industry, that is unacceptable. Years ago, when Lavenia herself was in charge, this funeral home set the standard for compassion and professionalism. What I experienced this time around under Stephanie’s direction was the complete opposite. It felt transactional, heartless, and indifferent to the pain my family was enduring. To make matters worse, another funeral director actually had the decency to ask how much more time we needed, proving that it was possible to show humanity in this situation. Stephanie chose not to. That choice was deliberate, and it made our already devastating loss even harder to bear. Families beware: if you are considering Lavenia & Summers, understand that the care for your loved one may be fine—but don’t expect the same level of compassion for yourself. Under the leadership of people like Stephanie Goldsmith, grieving families are treated like business deals, not human beings in pain. Stephanie, you are in the wrong profession if you cannot extend basic compassion to people at their lowest point. Families do not come to you for more obstacles, pressure, and coldness—they come to you for help. And if you cannot provide that, then either change how you treat people or step aside and let someone with actual empathy do the work. I will never recommend Lavenia & Summers to another family as long as this is the kind of treatment they allow under their name. In this business, compassion is not optional—it’s the job.

Lavenia & Summers has worked with us a number of times with family who has passed on. Recently they took over services and care for my grandmother. Lavenia & Summers took great care of my grandmother and her services. I cannot express enough gratitude to the staff at Lavenia & Summers. She was beautiful and her services were just as beautiful. Stephanie took great care of my family and made sure all of our & my grandmothers wishes were honored. Losing someone close to you is already one of the hardest things to go through, but Stephanie & the staff at Lavenia & Summers made her celebration of life one great day to honor and celebrate her. Thank you all for your services and dedication to the families you serve.

My experience with LAVENIA&SUMMERS was the very best it could have been at a terrible time in my life. They gently guided me through the process of making arrangements for my husband in a way that was respectful and honored the life he lived. They were receptive to the things I wanted and went out of their way to make sure my wishes were fulfilled. The staff was wonderful and I am so grateful to them. I would highly recommend them to whoever may need their services.
