Andrea was wonderful! She took the time to help me find glasses when I wasn't sure which ones to get. The entire staff was great and I was seen fairly quickly. Andrea specifically was very kind, patient, and gave great advice on which frames best suited me. Additionally, she also helped me understand the financial aspect of purchasing the glasses since I have new insurance. Many thanks to Andrea!

My experience at Dr. Tavel was very thorough and positive. Everyone was knowledgeable and went above and beyond in their service. I couldn't have expected better. It took from February to June to get my glasses. There were unforseen problems along the way. It took too long.

I've been going to Dr. Tavels for years and I moved so the closest one was 86th St and I am very disappointed. My appointment was 3 weeks ago and despite calling and leaving messages, no one is calling me back. I still don't have my glasses or contacts. Very unprofessional and I will not be going back next year for my annual exam.

Racial discrimination at this location beware! They refused to fill my eye drops and charged me for glasses they never did anything to. Before my appointment they were trying to turn me away. When I asked for prior authorization to approve my eyedrops they came up with a lie saying it was my insurance that I am waiting on. I called them to find out that was a lie! I will be reporting this to corporate as well.

Frustrating and disappointing. I bought glasses from this location and sent them back because one lens kept popping out. I dropped the glasses off and then got a call the lens was too small and the glasses needed to be sent back. I dropped off the glasses on 12/29/25. It is now 1/28/26 and i have heard NOTHING. It is just one lens- WHY IS IT TAKING SO LONG? It has BEEN A MONTH AND I am without my new eyeglasses, which I need to SEE.
On top of that, when I call, i get transferred to a general call center, not the store location. Why??

While the optometrist I saw was excellent, patient, and thorough, my experience with the front office and sales staff was disappointing. The staff member who conducted pre testing was unwelcoming and lacked professionalism. Although I understand the no cell phone policy, she stood and watched me put my phone away before continuing, which felt unnecessary. My medication list was also not fully reviewed, and I had to point out specific medications myself, which raised concerns about thoroughness. While waiting to be called back, the same staff member stood behind me and appeared to look over my phone screen, which felt like an invasion of privacy. Additionally, there was little discretion in the office, as insurance information was discussed loudly in a shared space where other patients could hear. There was also confusion regarding insurance coverage, eyewear eligibility, and non prescription contacts. I was given inconsistent information and had to correct staff more than once. The copay I was quoted over the phone differed from what I was told in person and was only corrected after I raised the issue. That said, the optometrist was outstanding. She was patient, attentive, and made the exam itself a very positive experience. I hope the practice addresses the front office issues so the overall patient experience can better reflect the quality of care she provides.
