“We contacted Charles & Crystal about replacing our cedar fence with a composite one. We've had the cedar fence for over 15 years and really thought it was done.

They came out and assessed the current fence to provide an estimate. Afterward, we walked the fence, and they shared their recommendation. We could go with a composite replacement for over $20K. Or we could take an alternate path for less than $5K. To have a contractor provide the alternative was refreshing and heartening.

We did not need to replace it. A good power wash and stain would make it look like new. Charles also recommended replacing the nails for screws so that it would hold together longer. We also had to replace two gates that had deteriorated. Charles was able to build and replace them without issue.

For one replaced gate, the new handle didn't quite work for me. I often go through the gate with my hands full (from the garage to the house), and initially I couldn't get it open with the first handle. I discussed with Charles, he thought about options, and made an adjustment for me. The resulting handle works.

For the second replaced gate, the new locking mechanism allowed the gate to gape a bit. As we reviewed the work together, I saw it immediately, but before I said anything, Charles noted it and said he wasn't happy with it. He told me the change he wanted to make. The final locking mechanism works great and has really made a difference for using the gate.

Finally, we didn't want to stain the cedar and so hired their sons separately to do so. Again, fabulous!
