My husband and I purchased a 22 year old home last summer. We knew that rooms with high ceilings can be difficult to heat as can rooms over a garage. After zoning our HVAC system to gain more control, we found that we still had large temperature differences between various rooms. The room over the garage was an icebox in zero degree weather. We called in Building Energy Experts.They did a blower door test and showed us where the insulation was in need of improvement. They did spray foam in the basement rim joists, added foam board to all walls that had exposed unheated attic on the other side, and blew in more insulation.
