Andrew Makone, the owner of A440, is a life saver, responsive, accountable, knowledgable, and flexible. Not just him, but all the Luthiers he employs are also as helpful and knowledgeable as he is.
He loaned us secure a flight case to fly our bass to an audition with a last minute notice and since my student does not have a car, he helped us with the case drop and pick up. He also saved me a lot of hassle by offering a one-time use flight case with all the protective gear required to fly the bass back home at a very reasonable price. Again, you guess it right, he took the time to drop the case with me.
Great place to sell an instrument! Mike was fair, informative, and highly responsive throughout a long consignment process for my 7/8 double bass (larger than usual and a tough sell). He listened to my pricing input and paid out $10,000 promptly once sold, minus their 20% commission (contract signed in 2019). Highly recommended!
A440 got my French factory fiddle all tuned up at a reasonable price. The difference with a new bridge and soundpost (and some strings that aren't like 20 years old) is night and day, this thing could legitimately peel paint off the walls with how loud it is, and the sound is rich and punchy. The playability is wonderful, too. Great place to go get work done, and to stare at some exquisite instruments while there.
