Our driveway had been sinking near the garage apron for years and water was pooling against the foundation every time it rained finally got serious about fixing it after the basement got a little damp last fall.called around to a few bricks paving outfits in Arlington Heights and GX was the one who actually explained what was causing the sinking instead of just quoting a tear out.turned out the base under that section was never compacted right when the driveway was originally laid.they pulled up the affected pavers,redid the base properly,regraded it so water runs toward the street,and reset everytime.you can’t tell which section is new vs old which is what I wanted.job...read full review
Our brick patio had been sinking unevenly for years and a couple spots near the back steps were getting bad enough that you had to watch your step. We kept putting it off because we figured the whole thing would have to come out and get rebuilt. Got a few quotes from masonry guys around Arlington Heights and GX was the only one who told us most of the patio was actually still solid. They pointed to about a six foot stretch where the base underneath had given out. They pulled up just that section, redid the base, and put the same bricks back so the pattern lined up with the rest. Our brick porch columns had been looking rough for a couple years. the mortar was crumbling on the bottom sections and one column had a slight lean, probably from the freeze-thaw cycles we get. GX came out and the foreman walked the porch with me, explaining what needed real structural work versus cosmetic touch-ups. they rebuilt both columns from about two feet up and tuckpointed the rest of the base. they also re-laid a few of the brick pavers near the steps that had sunk. the color match on the new mortar is pretty close, and the pavers no longer puddle when it rains. the crew was careful, cleaned up every day, and treated the porch with respect. seeing the porch now...read full review
