Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Being a 6 month beginner its sometimes intimidating going to a new place but everyone here made me feel like home. I will be coming back again if I am ever in the area for work! Thanks everyone at The Base for a great experience!DanRoy Washington“

2210 N Meridian Rd, Meridian“My 9 year old son currently has been practicing at this dojo for 3 months now. I will have to say I am impressed with this dojo. I have taken martial arts myself when I was a child starting at the age of 8 and continuing on till I was 18 and then off and on, so I have been around a few dojo's and taken different styles. Before my son started at this dojo, I went and toured other's to see what would fit him the best. Here what made this dojo stand out from the rest.
It has a great balance of discipline and acceptance of were and how a student is doing. It is not so strict that a student doesn't think that they are making progress, but there is a sense of ownership instilled onto the student to do the correct movements. They want students to feel like they have growth but also aren't going to just give out belts if the student is there for a certain amount of time. In fact you have to earn your white belt when you start, many styles you are just given a white belt when you show up.
Secondly, I really like the instructors. During the week classes focus on different aspects. One night it might be forms and another night it will be practical applications to what the students have learned. One night when I was there, I can remember the Sensei telling one of the kids to grab her hair to demonstrate a technique. When the student only lightly grabbed her she said, no really grab my hair because this is how in real life someone is going to do it. It reaffirmed that to me that not only does this dojo practice the forms but shows people the real life application in a real way even with younger kids. Other studios I visited either didn't show practical applications or just really let the kids play around without much structure.
The last piece I want to say, is that this dojo is not trying to be a big corporate dojo. If feels like they want to stay small and be more like a family. Everyone knows everyone, the actual dojo is small. When you walk in if feels like it is ran by real people, not someone who owns 20 dojos. It isn't going to be completely immaculate, and they don't have a 3 year black belt program like some schools. But what they do have is family, you make friends, you will learn karate, and become a better person in all aspects.“

“I was impressed on day one with both the instructors one of the owners I met. As a middle school teacher, I recognized right away that this martial arts school knew child development and knew how to motivate kids of various ages. When we started my kids were 6 and 10; a year and a half in, my kids have rapidly developed advanced coordination, confidence and an enhanced level of personal responsibility. My daughter is now in the leadership program and a TA in the “Moogies” program for the youngest students. The entire staff is friendly, professional, and loves their job!! They seem to really take great joy in helping kids achieve their taekwondo goals, and relating martial arts training to excellence in other aspects of their lives. We are very impressed with the program and people at Legacy. Master Mr Neitzell and Master Mrs Neitzell are stellar leaders!!“
