This is my first and last year using Ripley Doorn for my taxes. In my first meeting with the accountant he told me I would be billed for hours worked on my tax return. This is the fist time I have ever experienced this type of billing. All my previous accountants told me a price up front. Also after uploading my tax documents and meeting with my accountant, he did not have a finished return. That took several more weeks. I was told I would owe the IRS but get a refund from the State. After waiting several weeks for my state refund I discovered that I actually owed the state and would also pay interest! I also discovered I owed the IRS more than I was told I would owe them. Both instances were because my accountant reported I had made estimated payments which was incorrect. One reason you hire an accountant is to make sure there are no gray areas, and to have everything explained to you. Even after all this, my accountant denied that the mistakenly reported estimated payments did not cost me any money which is untrue. Because the reported amount was incorrect I had to pay interest and fees. The final bill was too expensive for the poor service I received. I do not recommend them and will not use them again.

I have not yet decided which CPA that I want to use as I am new to this area. I have normally used a EA as they are federal tax specialist and have always served me right with my businesses. I have revised their clientele and I see they have a good reputation dealing with international tax issues so I will keep thst in my mind.

They have gone above and beyond for two years. I was sent to McKenna after I took over trusteeship of a neglected trust and had to work out 15+ years of backlogged tax implications. As a dual citizen, she figured out my foreign tax implications as well and was available answer questions along the way. Thank you!
