Honest Wrench always does a great job of inspecting my vehicle and repairing what is needed. I trust what they show me. Thanks for making me feel safe while on the road.

Techs communicated costs upfront to troubleshoot my Audi reverse camera. Found an easy fix and were happy to reduce cost to resolve the issue. I have already referred their skills to a number of people.

This was my first experience with Honest Wrenches in West Des Moines. In total, they are a professional shop that did good work on my car albeit just an oil change and tire rotation.
Setting the appointment was easy online. They offer a shuttle service in case you need a ride back home. It also looks like they have courtesy car in case the service takes a day. In my case, I was having the oil changed and the tires rotated. This also included a full inspection of the major systems of the car and filling of fluids needed etc.
After dropping my car off at 8:00 am, the shuttle driver took me to my house. I was contacted via text to look at their initial report which indicated I possibly needed 4 other services since they could find no records of those being don via their Carfax inquiry. Since I am a new owner fo this used vehicle, I wanted to investigate more with the previous owner to see in fact if they were done and not reported since reporting to Carfax is optional and some service centers do not report.
I received a phone call an hour or so later and indicated to them that at this time to move forward with just the oil changed and tire rotation.
I was contacted at 3:51 the work had been done and the shuttle driver would be contacting me when he was in the driveway. The shuttle driver called at 4:05 where we returned to Honest Wrenches, reviewed and paid the bill and drove away at 4:15. All in all, the business easy to do business with.
The only critique I would have is my car was unavailable to me for an entire day for just an oil change and tire rotation. I'll have to take that into account for the next oil change. Not sure if I want that for just an oil change.

WOMEN/VULNERABLE POPULATIONS BEWARE. I came in for a basic oil change and to ask if they could replace a headlight bulb. I've done it myself before--it's a 10-minute fix--so I figured it would be simple. At first, they seemed helpful and even offered to drive me home while they worked on my car. A few hours later, I got a call saying they'd done a full inspection and found all kinds of "urgent" issues: a dirty engine air filter (a classic upsell), a minor transmission fluid leak, and several other things. They pushed hard for me to approve thousands in repairs--nearly $6,000 worth of work--none of which was actually necessary. I know enough about cars to question it, and my boyfriend (a mechanic) confirmed that the leak was minor and didn't warrant immediate repair. When I told them I only wanted the oil change, they kept trying to add more. The most absurd part? They tried to charge me $300 just to replace a headlight bulb--a bulb I've replaced myself before. When I told them I'd do it on my own again, they scoffed at me. It was clear they assumed I didn't know anything just because I'm a woman. Their entire model seems based on upselling unnecessary services and grossly overcharging--any of the repairs they quoted could be done for far less at a reputable shop. It's not just dishonest, it's predatory. Please be careful, especially if you're not confident in car repair pricing. This place rips people off, and they absolutely try to take advantage of anyone who looks like they might not push back. PS: the only reason I can even give 1 star is because the shuttle driver was a sweetheart, and I had a coupon for the oil change that made it only $65 (much cheaper than usual given the price for my oil and filter alone). HOWEVER with the coupon, it was only supposed to be a $55 oil change but they snuck in a $10 "processing fee" (again, unnecessary charges), so it was still more expensive that it was supposed to be.

I had used this company before to get an oil change because of the coupon I received in the mail. My car is older so I wasn't surprised they found things that needed done. It seemed like a lot but I'm an old lady. I took my car in several months later for new tires, a check on my brakes, and to fix the warning light that flashed to say I needed to check my tire pressure. I told Sean I didn't want expensive tires that I wanted good tires. He said he'd take care of that. Early the next day he called to tell me they would be taking care of my brakes and with the tires it would cost $2400 half right then to get parts ordered. The next day I used their free shuttle service to come and get my car. Sean greeted me with the bad news that they had missed fixing the warning light and it would take $1000 for them to put my car back up on the lift and fix and re-program the system. Are you kidding? My car had just had the tires off and the brakes fixed! Then he said he could do it for less since they'd forgotten. $600 didn't seem like a deal when it was their oversight. I told him I would just check my tire pressure the old fashioned way. With a tire gauge. I truly believe this company up-prices their services. I feel like such a fool. Is it because I'm an old lady? I think they would do this to anyone foolish enough to go there.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR VEHICLE TO THIS BUSINESS. Both locations (West Des Moines and Ankeny) are owned by the same people. Quoted me $3900 to replace my radiator. Actual cost to perform $1550.. This was my third experience with this shop. First two visits I was provided a written/itemized quote outlining charges. This visit I met and worked with owner, Joshua Mullins, who sat next to me in the waiting area and verbally quoted me $3900. Zero paperwork, no cost breakdown. I left and received two quotes, both within $50 of one another for $1550 I called Wrenches and asked for copy of quote and was sent a typed paragraph with the $3900 amount , again no itemized quote or cost breakdown. When I asked just how many radiators Joshua thought he saw in my van, area manager Alex told me that it sounded like they had "missed the mark". He said he would like to see a copy of my estimate to make sure they were comparing "apples to apples". I let him know that allowing them to create a quote attempting to rationalize them charging me more than double the going rate of the work needed was not going to happen. I do not believe that my experience is an isolated one and would hate myself if another person fell victim to their business practices because I didn't take the time to detail and post this review. MAKE SURE YOU RECEIVE A COPY OF ANY WARRANTY! I had my transmission replaced there. When speaking to the owner while waiting for them to look at my radiator he said some things about being an independent shop that made me want to make sure I had a copy of my transmission warranty. I requested one later via email and Service advisor, Tanner, told me he could send me a copy of my invoice. I told him that does not include warranty information. He then said H Wrenches handled any warranty issues in house and that Joshua could talk me through their policy. I said NO, if he can talk me through it he can put it in writing. A couple hours later their Area Manager - Alex emailed stating the lack of me receiving any warranty paperwork was his error and he sent one. Also, 4 months into me waiting on a back ordered transmission, I let them know I wanted to look elsewhere, thus I would need the $3000 down payment I had provided them when they estimated a 4-6 week initial back order. Imagine my surprise when the same day I said I was going to look elsewhere, thus needing my $3000 returned, they miraculously came up with the transmission. I should have never gone back after that first experience. Sue All information provided in this review is backed by an email paper trail should Wrenches attempt to dispute the events as I have outlined

I told these guys I needed the HCU replaced on my car and they proceeded to run 800 dollars of inspections and then told me they needed to replace the master cylinder to fix my spongy brake pedal issue. Needless to say after they “fixed the problem” and charged me 1600 dollars I still need to get the HCU replaced. These guys are scumbags who are just part swappers.
