I needed a short cut to deal with summer heat, and disability making my hair a painful chore. I had gone from mid-back to shoulder length a few months ago and decided yesterday to get a very short style. The staff were very friendly, and yet hesitant to do a women's cut, but I assured them I'd be fine with the results. I have a nice inverted bob cut that already feels much better.
side note, the barber shop is cash only, so be prepared before going. I had to visit the ATM and circle back.

I have been a patron of this barber shop for 25 years now and I can't imagine there being a place better than this. I have never been disappointed about anything taking place when I am there. Friendly atmosphere to say the least. I can be very exacting at times and my expectations have always been met if not exceeded when I visit this establishment. thanks to the ladies of John's Barber shop for always taking the time to place a perfect haircut on an imperfect head LOL

John's Barber shop is by far best place I've ever had pleasure of having spent money at for a haircut. This establishment is geared for the military personnel and is frequented by those in services including our own police officers and firefighters here in Des Moines. That being said the employees are always friendly and courteous from the moment you walk into the door until the time you leave. The individual who cuts my hair by the name of Doreen is by far hands down the best I've ever had cut my hair in my entire life and really does she ever use a pair of clippers until it's at the very end when she's just cleaning up a hair line and such.... read full review
