“I was a patient just this past June and cannot sing their praises any louder.. Following my stroke, I was sent to Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital for inpatient rehabilitation. I arrived at a frightening and uncertain time in my life. I left feeling that I had been cared for by an extraordinary group of people.
The quality of care was outstanding, but what impressed me most was that the compassion extended far beyond my doctors, nurses and therapists. From the aides and dietary staff to housekeeping, maintenance and reception, I was treated with kindness, patience, dignity and respect.
Recovery from a stroke is measured in small victories—another step down the hallway, accomplishing something in therapy you couldn’t do the day before, or simply beginning to believe you can get your life back. The staff at Mercy Rehab understood how important those victories were, and they celebrated them right along with me.
I wrote a thank-you to the staff before leaving titled Where Ordinary Becomes Extraordinary. That remains the best way I can describe my experience. What may have seemed like ordinary acts of care to the people working there became extraordinary to me.
They didn’t simply help me recover. They gave me confidence, encouragement and hope when I needed them most.
Mercy Rehabilitation Hospital became my village during one of the most difficult times of my life. I will always be grateful to the remarkable people who helped me find my way home again.
Five stars doesn’t seem quite enough.
