I am a hospice nurse, and Troy, (I believe that's his name) came to the hospice house to cut a patient's hair. This was one of his biggest goals..to get his hair cut and look more presentable before he passed. Troy took his time, he treated him so nicely, and did a wonderful job for him. I was impressed with his kindness, professional demeanor and the compassion he showed to this man in his last days. It was truly a gift, and a bright light in our crazy world. I went to this barbershop - it is a barbershop, not a salon - for a haircut, but was told that the earliest they could see me was 3 weeks from that day. FYI: There was ONE other customer there and 2 unoccupied barbers. Since they weren't interested in giving me a haircut they didn't - and they never will. This is a review for the only Groom Room in Ames, at 526 Main St, in the old depot. UPDATE: I tried calling the number provided below by Troy to discuss this review with him but the call always goes unanswered.

For about a year of my life I was getting a taper fade from my normal barber, and recently I decided to try something new and check out the groom room
In all honesty I would never recommend for someone to get their hair cut here, and I regret spending every cent of the 60$ I blew.
I’ve never had any sensitive skin/ psoriasis issues in my life, but after leaving the groom room it looked like I rubbed my head around the floor of a high-school wrestling mat and contracted enough ringworm to concern doctors
Idk if my hairdresser had it out for me, or they were using some 29 cent clippers straight from temu, but it wasn’t pretty.
What also wasn’t pretty was the cut itself. I think I could’ve got a better result from harbor freight lawn clippers.
Maybe I’m not the right clientele, or maybe it’s my fault, im not sure. But if you’re not interested in questioning wether you should buy anti fungal shampoo after your haircut, can’t say I would recommend the groom room

Had an appointment today, got to the salon, and the answer I got is, the person who should cut your hair today didn’t show up. No compensation or anything, i have to wait till next week.? Update: Tony (the owner), contacted me and arranged an appointment the day after. He was so kind, and the haircut exceeded my expectation.

The staff was was very friendly and although the ambiance of the groom room was the best I have ever seen, unfortunately that was far from the case for my haircut. I went in with a hair cut in mind and came out with something far from it. I am thankful I have hair that grows pretty quickly and I would also love to talk to someone if that’s possible.Service: Haircut
