12/28/23 Sean left a small piece of equipment and a sweatshirt in my laundry room. Nobody stole his equipment, that's a lie. I don't even know what that equipment does, how was I going to use it? When he came to our home so we could walk through and identify all of the problems, he lost his temper with me and my fiancee and started cursing and yelling at us. He walked out and slammed our glass door so hard that we thought it might break. We immediately locked the door because we were afraid. Sean called the poice and fabricated a complete lie. The police officer even apologized to us for having to deal with Sean. Beyond having to deal with all of the drama from Sean, now I'm managing finding a new contractor to completely refinish my floors from start to finish, while trying to get my $15k back from Sean, and he is now stalking us online and I have to spend time requesting pictures be removed. He posted 100 photos of our home, just on Christmas day, that were previously removed and he was not authorized to take. He's violating the law in posting pictures of my private residence without permission. Just because it looks like I have a nice home and he decided to have a photo shoot instead of properly finishing my floors, doesn't mean it looks good close up. Believe me, it's a total mess. He's a con artist in trying to use picture of a nice house with the lights dimmed to convince people that he's a flooring professional. Next steps, I will have to file a TRO to prevent him from continuing to post pictures of our home. It's ridiculous that someone who did such a horrible job and treated a client so poorly, has so much confidence online to violate my privacy and the law. It has been a nightmare dealing with this guy. Worst mistake ever! 12/29/23 Sean Canfield continues to harass me online by retaliating for the review I posted about his company. He's now posting false reviews about my healthcare company, that he has never worked with or been affiliated with. I've never posted a review before, but decided the public needed to know about this person to save themselves from the time, expense, and brain damage we've had to endure. I hope Sean never takes advantage of another person in our community.

Wow! What can I say about this company's absolutely beautiful work. I hired Sean, the owner of Finishing Touch Hardwood Floors to install, sand, and finish flooring in my home. He took his time to be sure to understand my needs and kept me informed of the progress and what to expect. Four of my other family members were so impressed, they hired him to do their floors and are extremely happy - including my mother who is a hard sell. He even installs custom borders. Friends who have seen my floors, have called him and have hired him. They have been totally impressed with his passion and knowledge. Sean is extremely knowledgeable, professional, and the last of a dying breed of true craftsmen. If you are looking for a person who truly knows his craft, you have found the perfect company to hire. I would not hesitate to hire him again and I highly recommend him for your flooring needs.

I just want to let everyone know how great Sean Canfield, the owner of Finishing Touch Hardwood Floors, is to work with! I have used him with a number of my clients in redoing their bamboo floors, taking up the old toxic varnish, and then re-coating it with an extraordinary product that he imports. He puts on 3 coats of it and makes the floors shine! It brings the old floor back to life to the natural color of the bamboo. He can even add a light tint to match any of your existing cabinetry. He is conscientious and even helped my elderly client move her furniture with great care! He and his employee Jerome work in perfect unison. His prices are fair and the work is fantastic! Allowing me to raise the price of my listings! Geat value! His specialty is any real hard wood floors.Ask Sean to send you photos of his Craft, and then invite him to check out your project & give you a quote.Mahalo & Aloha! Finishing Touch came through for me when another floor refinisher I'd lined up canceled the morning he was scheduled. A blessing in disguise as I couldn't be happier with the spectacular results. Floors in my recently purchased 70 year old home were in pretty rough shape. Deep scrapes and sticky with glue where some tiles had been. Sean smoothed everything out beautifully and agreed to use a no VOC tinted finish I had purchased from ECOS. Application of the finish went perfectly. Just a few minor spots needed correction which he came back the next day to address. He even stained a threshold for me from a piece of gorgeous burled wood. Minimal dust and Sean and his partner were good with clean up following. Going with Finishing Touch for sure as I move on to do the rest of my floors. Just be sure to read your contract carefully so you understand what is and is not included

I am a Real Estate Broker and property manager for 23+ years on Oahu. I called around and from the onset, Sean was very professional and sincere about coming to preview the job. I was able to schedule a quote within days. At the walk through, Sean was very detailed in explaining the process and my husband happened to see his very expensive dust free sanding machine in the back of his truck and was impressed. The dust free part was a big deal for the project. We got the bid quickly and found his pricing was very fair for several floors that needed to be re sanded, as well as some "iffy" floors that were covered by carpets in the bedrooms. They made all the floors match exactly in color and finish, and completed the job a few days ahead of schedule. We were totally impressed and Sean even made us a beautiful matching threshold that was missing from an area of the house. The best surprise was to find out the floors were TEAK!! not mahogany, as they originally appeared. Well worth the splurge to have Finishing Touch come in with their expertise, as they really know what they are doing and do the job right. I would highly recommend them and will use them again for other hard wood flooring needs.

*In response to Sean's new reply. I screen shot his original reply and posted photo. Also the stains on the wood were from rain in front of sliding doors that would let rain in during Kona winds not dog urine. Not that makes any difference anyway if he's replacing the boards. I think this is his attempt at a insult. I tried multiple times to get him to return and stand by his work but was unsuccessful. The pictures speak for themselves. Got two quotes to refinish my hardwood oak floors. Sean was the cheapest, but I wish i never used. When initially talking to him he assured me my floors were in great condition and it would be easy for him to come in, refinish them and make them look brand new again. Paid him half upfront to start. Shortly after starting he informs and shows me a small section of boards need to be replaced because of dark stains that he can't remove, and he can replace them for an exorbitant extra cost. Would have been nice if he pointed this out at his initial consult and quote. He assures me that after he replaces the small section of flooring that have dark stains, the floor will look perfect. I reluctantly agreed. He makes his repair, replaces maybe five or six 3 inch by 3 foot boards. After inspecting his work. I found he only relaced half of the boards with dark stains. There was another five or six boards of the same length that needed to be replaced right next to the boards he did replace. Not only that, one of the new boards he had just installed had split and the corner broke off and instead of putting in another new board he just filled it with a big section of putty instead. When I asked him why he didn't change out the other five or six boards that obviously needed to be replaced. He said that I didn't specify exactly what boards needed to be replaced and if I wanted those other five or six boards replaced it would be an additional exorbitant price for him to do so. Felt like a super sleazy thing to pull. I was in a time crunch, so I agreed to pay the additional, additional cost. After Sean finished, I paid him the remainder of the balance but wasn't able to inspect all of his work until the floors dried. Finally, after the floor dried and i was able to inspect his work. I found dark streaks in the flooring, swirls in the wood from spots where he missed with the fine grit sander, the finish he used was all over my base boards and there were spots he missed all together. I tried getting him back to my place to fix his problem spots, but my bank had already cleared the check I gave him, and he was giving me the run around. Even telling me he couldn't make it multiple days because he had a tooth ache. I ended up repainting my base boards and touching up the spots he missed with the can of finish he left in my garage myself because of my time crunch. In my opinion Sean is a dishonest business owner who quotes one price to get in the door and then ups it dramatically once he starts. He also has terribly poor workmanship. When he's done with your floors he'll make you wish you never had hard wood floors.

He was super nice during the esitmate, but he was all business once we paid half deposit. Our budget was low but he did oK. Anytime I bring up issue with floor he got worked up and blamed us. If can, use someone else, if no can use Sean. He not real good, but he not the worst.

UPDATE Litigation is forthcoming, and results will be shared here in a few months. The finish that Sean applied to our floors, and that he is VERY proud of as he often stated that he "came up with the idea", involves him mixing a tint/dye with the clear coat polyurethane finish. After Sean completed the job on our downstairs floor and it was apparent that all of the marks and discoloration were not going away (even though Sean stated they would disappear after 6 weeks), I reached out to the product manufacturer. They stated that no tint, dye, or color additive should ever be added to their products as it will not dry correctly. Sean's alteration of the finish and his application technique directly resulted in dark marks, streaks, and discoloration throughout our house. In hindsight, and after researching this online, it appears that Sean does this to save himself time and money even though it is specifically prohibited by the manufacturer. BEWARE! No one from RICO ever looked at our floors and they stated that their internal policy is to only investigate workmanship issues on a completed contract. I paid Sean ~$7200 on the ~$9000 contract. I refused to allow Sean to complete the final coat of finish on our upstairs floor because he lied about the marks disappearing after 6 weeks and the completed downstairs looked abysmal (see photos). The upstairs floor looked substantially worse than the downstairs and Sean told us the marks would remain even after the final coat. As a result, I would not pay Sean the remaining amount so that he could continue destroying our floors. I was instructed by RICO to go through the ligation process and then refile the complaint once the judgement is made. I have ample texts and audio of Sean completely going off the rails, and on some occasions making veiled threats. I'm not sure if I can share them on Yelp, but if anyone doubts my review, feel free to reach out and I will share them. Sean also attempted to pay me to remove my Yelp review, which I refused.

We recently purchased a house in Pearl City that unexpectedly had beautiful original oak floors underneath the carpet. We called and/or sent messages to 5 companies. 2 responded, 1 of the 2 never followed up after a first call. Only Sean followed up and was quick to come out and do an assessment. They applied the last coat today and could not be happier. Sean did a great job fixing some light termite damage in one corner and restored the floors to their beautiful glory. Thanks Sean!

The Sean I know is very different than the negative review I saw earlier in Yelp. My wife and I hired Sean to sand, fix, repair, & stain, our 2500 square feet of flooring and the results are great. Far beyond expected. The bathroom, entry, and dining had severe damage from roof leaks. There were at least 30 years of history and family living with little or no maintaining. Yet, somehow Sean made the flooring look new. It is seven months now as I write since the job was completed and all is well. One day after the job was completed I damaged a patch by putting a large scratch in the dining area rolling my sofa around and Sean was here to fix it free within one week of notice. Sean was very attentive to all my needs. Sean's pricing was very fair and less than two other quotes by about 20%. Once you see the difficulty in sanding and finishing a wood floor you will appreciate Sean's experience as I do.
