I came to them just two weeks before my wedding after a disastrous experience with the alterations department at the bridal shop where I purchased my dress. After four separate attempts, they still couldn’t get the bustle right. It either dragged on the floor or was so bunched up that it looked completely unnatural. When it became clear my dress wasn’t going to be fixed, we had no choice but to take it elsewhere. Even the bridal shop owner acknowledged that the alterations had been done incorrectly.
The first alterations shop we visited told us the dress had been altered so badly that it would take weeks to fix. Thankfully, A+ Alterations was recommended by another wedding planner while my own planner was helping me desperately search for someone who could save it.
When we arrived, Jamie and Holly immediately stopped what they were doing to look at my dress. They already understood the urgency because I had called ahead. Within minutes, they identified exactly what had gone wrong. The previous seamstress had taken in my dress from the back instead of the sides, which caused the zipper to become uneven and threw off the design on the back of the gown. She had also folded the excess fabric underneath instead of removing it. Because my dress already had four layers, this created a total of 16 layers in certain areas, making the bustle bulky, heavy, and impossible to lay correctly. As they carefully took the dress apart, they also discovered a hole along with several other mistakes that had been hidden by the previous alterations.
Jamie and Holly worked tirelessly—even staying after hours—to completely undo the damage and reconstruct my dress the way it should have been altered from the beginning. Considering everything they had to correct and the fact that we only had two weeks before my wedding, I honestly don’t know how they pulled it off.
When I put my dress on for the final fitting, it fit like it had been made just for me. The bustle was flawless, the back of the dress lined up perfectly, and every detail was exactly as I had envisioned. I walked down the aisle feeling beautiful and completely confident because of their incredible work.
