For example, he does his own plans so we worked together on the plans for months until we ultimately came up with a plan perfect for us. He also spent as much time as necessary to complete the plans without any additional expense, I suspect that saved us a lot of money. Mike also will accommodate changes throughout the building process. Sometimes you can’t sense the reality of the design until the walls are up, Mike worked with us to tweak some aspects of the project while it was ongoing. He is also very good at managing the permit process which was very smooth. Overall we now live in a beautiful house and Mike’s expertise made all the difference. We highly recommend Cogdill Builders of Florida for anyone looking to build a high-quality custom home.

He was more than willing to answer any questions I had and proceeded to offer additional information and advice. Mike was building a home next door to me. I spoke with him regarding a stop work order the city of Tampa place on my property due to a concrete contractor and garage door company performing work without permitting.
He offered to help me navigate the bureaucracy free of charge. I was floored. For over a year, I made my weekly Tuesday morning trip to the city of Tampa offices, only to be told I was still not in compliance.
Meanwhile, I'm racking up fines everyday I did't resolve the permitting issues. He was my angel. He hired a company to draft the necessary site plans to resolve the driveway repour. And pulled a permit for the garage door installation. He then negotiated down the fines I racked up with the magistrates office.
A total class act. The type of building professional you need on your side to manage the trades people and more importantly navigate the bureaucracy that is the City of Tampa permitting department.

Mike built my home in 2021, during Covid. My wife and I are completely happy with the house. We just evacuated during the hurricane and returned home to find no damage. Not even a shingle was missing. Our neighbor’s homes with shingle roofs are all missing large areas of shingles, gutters and soffit. We do have many trees down and my dock and shoreline are missing, so we got very strong winds. I don’t normally recommend builders but Mike is the exception to my rule. He builds a solid home and stands by his work.

We worked with Cogdill Builders to build a 1,250 square ft. pool cabana (custom accessory structure) on our Seminole Heights property and Mike Cogdill was a great partner and guide. Mike works with you where you are - if you want to save money he will help; if you want to build a palace, he will get it done. This was a difficult project from the start due to narrow access to the back of our lot and then we had covid issues to deal with. Mike and his team were all great to work with through a challenging process and we couldn't be happier with the end result. If you are building a home in the Tampa Bay Area, I recommend that you talk to Mike as early as possible in the process and give him a shot.

The quality of our built home is lacking. Not custom when the builder does not ask about the details or promises one thing but does not deliver. The initial construction seemed very good but then there was no coordination of the subcontractors. The builder had a hard time remembering his different projects. Comments like "we will give you the good people today" when noticed things not done well and "oh, they did not do that?" when asked about a detail that was discussed but not done. I wanted all "good people" every day for everything! Attention detail lacking - wall switches behind cabinets. Attitude when asked to change it. The electrical seems to be the worse. Subcontractors with "promised" help after built do not call back after many calls. My family has had to call our own subcontractors to fix the horrible work done by the builder's subcontractors. Only 1 year in, the house with some steps crumbling, replaced many breakers since waking up to no power to parts of the house, and brown streaks coming from the gutters. All this after asking for repairs before even moving in. My family did not build on Davis Island (when asked where the builder was - "building his Davis Island homes") so I guess we got the "bad people". Very unorganized, no attention to detail, lacks quality subcontractors, "helper" very condescending to women. When the builder's wife writes reviews, think twice about the quality you're going to get.
